It’s a little bit more than that, but we won’t know what until the trial on Monday.

Possible outcomes:

Trump org is dissolved.
Assets are seized.
Trump, Jr., and Eric are banned from ever being corporate officers in NY.
5 year ban on obtaining loans.

Found liable for sexual assault and defamation in civil court isn’t quite the same as “convicted sex offender” in criminal court.

For example, he doesn’t (yet) have to join a sex offender registry.

“No… not like that…”

IIRC this is the case where his lawyers neglected to ask for a jury trial, so it’s all on the judge and he IS NOT having it…

Other grand juries, such as for the documents at Bedminster, or the Arizona fake electors, have not been announced.

The E. Jean Carroll trial for sexual assault and defamation where Trump was found liable and ordered to pay $5 million before immediately defaming her again resulting in a demand for $10 million is not listed as it’s a civil case and not a crimimal one. That trial date is currently set for January 15th, the same day as the Iowa caucus. and has now been determined to be for damages only as Trump was already found liable.

In Defense of Drug Decriminalization—Yes, in Oregon ( www.thenation.com )

In November 2020, facing a record-breaking overdose crisis, voters in Oregon decided to take a chance on a novel approach to drug use in this country. That fall, voters overwhelmingly approved a measure to decriminalize possessing small amounts of some controlled substances, including heroin, cocaine, and methamphetamine. This...

Oregonian here. 110 has been an absolute disaster. The intent was good, legalize the drugs and incentivize treatment. You get busted with drugs it’s a $100 fine, and that fine is waived if you seek treatment…

You don’t even have to GET treatment, you just have to call a toll free number and ask about treatment options.

The first year, just over 16,000 people were ticketed. Less than 1% opted to ask about treatment.

Meanwhile every no-account addict is rolling to Oregon, Honduran gangs are operating in our streets with impunity 2-3 blocks from the police HQ, theft is up, property crime is up, and the only “harm reduction” portions of 110 that ARE actually being used are free needle exchanges and Narcan distribution.

Fire Station #1 stated they did 76 overdose calls on Labor Day weekend:

“In some cases we treat the same patient in the same week. And we know through our partners of AMR (ambulance service), that the same patient has overdosed multiple times in a day,” says Friedericks. “I know that even when we try to help, our help is unwanted, wares on all of us.”

Poor thing! Did they give you any painkillers? Sounds like she’s having a tough time of it!

If this is a result of an injury, the stitches make it look like that, she may also be having anxiety of some kind. You might want to try a thundershirt.

I was gifted a Little Free Library for my birthday. Total cost for the whole kit was about $800… Without books.

I spent about another $350-$400 populating it, getting business cards, an Instagram account, etc.

She Hulk was suntanning on the top of the Baxter building, and some jerks in a helicopter blew off her bathing suit and got some topless photos.

They sold them to some shady skin magazine, and even though She Hulk sued, couldn’t stop them from going to print…

Where the printer color corrected everything to remove the green, just showing an angry woman on a roof.

They even referenced the Star Trek story in the book.

The difference between Trump and the other guy removed from office because of 1/6:

abcnews.go.com/amp/Politics/…/story?id=89463597

Is that that guy had actually been convicted. Hasn’t happened for Trump… yet.

My expectation would be that because Trump’s case has not yet been adjudicated, he still has the premise of innocent until proven guilty, and until such time, he’s still qualified.

Nothing will come of it. The only guardrail on the Supreme Court is impeachment and the Republican led House will not start impeachment hearings on a Republican Judge.

Want to change that? Here’s what needs to happen in 2024:

A Democratic President
A Democratic majority in the House
At LEAST a 60 vote Democratic majority in the Senate.

jordanlund ,
@jordanlund@lemmy.one avatar

Kennedy died and we lost the 60 votes in the Senate.

jordanlund ,
@jordanlund@lemmy.one avatar

Kennedy died in August of 2009, in those 8 months they (and Obama) kind of saved the American economy?

You have to remember, when Obama took office, we were losing 700,000 jobs a month and the stock market had PLUMMETTED TO $6,500.

They managed to get the Recovery act passed in February, fought by the Republicans every inch of the way:

…wikipedia.org/…/American_Recovery_and_Reinvestme…

Which enabled the Tea Party movement and set the stage for the losses in 2010.

Followed by the “Cash For Clunkers” act in July to prop up the American auto industry, an industry many Republicans (including Mitt Romney) at the time said we should just let die.

en.m.wikipedia.org/…/Car_Allowance_Rebate_System

www.nytimes.com/2008/11/19/opinion/19romney.html

Then Kennedy died, we lost the 60 vote majority, and Republicans proceeded to use the filibuster more times than all the other Presidential terms combined.

jordanlund ,
@jordanlund@lemmy.one avatar

We aren’t talking about Democratic leadership, we’re talking about AOC.

p.s. “Democrat Party” gives your bias away, it’s the Democratic Party.

February 2009 – 724,000 jobs lost
March 2009 – 799,000 jobs lost
April 2009 – 692,000 jobs lost
May 2009 – 361,000 jobs lost
June 2009 – 482,000 jobs lost
July 2009 – 339,000 jobs lost
August 2009 – 222,000 jobs lost
September 2009 – 199,000 jobs lost
October 2009 – 202,000 jobs lost[3]
November 2009 - 64,000 jobs created[4]

Which worked so well through TWO failed Trump impeachments…

Impeachment without removal is pointless. So step 1 HAS to be getting the majority back in the house AND getting a 2/3rds majority in the Senate.

Once you do that, I’d argue for a new Amendment. Ethics rules + age limits.

jordanlund ,
@jordanlund@lemmy.one avatar

You need a majority vote in the house and the Republican majority will NEVER vote to impeach a Republican Supreme Court justice when there’s a Democratic President. Will never happen.

This is the same political body who needed 15 votes to decide who their own leader was.

jordanlund ,
@jordanlund@lemmy.one avatar

Impeachment had no impact on voters, if anything, quite the opposite, which is why we have a Republican run House of Representatives right now and the balance of power in the Senate hasn’t changed.

We need a 2/3rds majority in the House and Senate to start making massive changes.

jordanlund ,
@jordanlund@lemmy.one avatar

House leadership doesn’t do anything without knowing the votes are there first and they are absolutely not there.

jordanlund ,
@jordanlund@lemmy.one avatar

Because after impeaching him the House immediately flipped? Ya think? Impeachment was well recieved in the bubble, not so much outside the bubble.

jordanlund ,
@jordanlund@lemmy.one avatar

The problem is any mass mobilization against him will come from those further Right, not Left.

jordanlund ,
@jordanlund@lemmy.one avatar

Trumps 2nd impeachment was January 13th, 2021.

The next election was 2022 and the House flipped. Literally flipped, 222 Democrats in the 117th Congress to 222 Republicans in the 118th.

jordanlund ,
@jordanlund@lemmy.one avatar

One thing can have power. 2024 will see it flip the other way because of abortion. People don’t forget this shit.

jordanlund ,
@jordanlund@lemmy.one avatar

In the House, the Left is in the minority, the entire Democratic body could mobilize against McCarthy and he wouldn’t give two shits, because as far as he’s concerned, they’re already against him. They’re the minority, he doesn’t have to care.
