When a government attempts to discredit The Hague, it's a sign something has gone terribly wrong in that country. My latest:

Can you participate in a thought experiment with me? The posts warning about fascism are good, but I'm wondering what you think fascism actually looks like. Give a thought, and list what it looks like. Don't just say "the end of democracy." List what the concrete changes will be and make it local. "In my town/city/county/state the following will happen......" Think about it before replying. Not just for .

Trump will soon be homeless, penniless, friendless, lawyer less, and STILL facing 4 criminal trials for 91 indictments, 2 of which he's going up against the super-prosecutor Jack Smith, and in Georgia everyone's already flipped on him, including his own lawyers.

Yet people keep thinking he's gonna be the republican nominee? Don't worry about trump, worry about who the nominee is actually going to be

So, the former president of the United States is calling on states to take up arms to support Texas in its standoff against the federal government. That’s about as close to calling for civil war as you’re going to get without actually saying the words.

This is a situation that could spiral out of control in a heartbeat. I would not assume it’s just bluster.

The Venn diagram of people saying Trump should be allowed to do whatever he wants if he's president, and the people who wanted to impeach Obama for being Black in public is a perfect circle.

"We are, all of us, engaged every day in the construction of a moral order: by our accumulated individual examples, the words we use, the acts we condone, we can make it one that encourages decency and compassion towards others, or the reverse. This is particularly true of those in positions of leadership, political or other."

You know how one of the common symptoms of fascism is that they will describe their enemies as both weak and strong.
What would you call someone that describes themselves as both weak and strong?

For example "vote for me and I can definitely protect reproductive rights but actually bureaucracy prevents me from stopping the people trying to knock down reproductive rights."

For fellow redditfugees, you may remember a time when a certain brilliant citizen journalist topped /r/politics with their exquisitely detailed posts on American politics and an amazingly buttery username. Well, today I found out that @PoppinKREAM is now on the Fediverse. I'd like to propose a toast to the work of the best citizen journalist I've ever read. So I'm reminded today that the Republican Party hasn't released an update to their policy platform since 2016. Seeing as they're having money troubles and all, I thought I'd ask the Fediverse to help out.

So Fediverse, in your opinion, what is the current policy platform of the Republican party?

If you can provide links to specific legislation (passed or pending) or news articles that support your answer, all the better.

I'm neither an expert nor an american, but the idea that RFK Jr running as a third party candidate will hurt the democrats seems strange to me.

His policies, which can be summed up as "deny reality", align very closely with the modern republican party, not the democrats. It's hard to imagine that he would pull more votes away from Biden than Trump. Are there some people who would vote based on name recognition? Maybe... but surely it can't be that many? Meanwhile "Trump but not a rapist" must appeal to a number of the evangelical republicans...

Can someone name me the conservative philosopher?

He wrote a book about how the right must be hypocritical and just shrug it off, while relentlessly attacking the opposition for being as such. His given name was like "Carl" or something.

‘Kissinger’s Betrayal’: New Book Explains Why South Vietnam Fell

While Kissinger rightfully has been faulted before, Young provided detailed historical documents as “smoking guns” for his argument that Kissinger betrayed Nixon, U.S. Ambassador to South Vietnam Ellsworth Bunker, and South Vietnamese President Nguyen Van Thieu. This perfidy set the stage for the success of the North Vietnamese conquest of South Vietnam in April 1975. It occurred on May 31, 1971, during his secret negotiations with North Vietnamese leadership when Kissinger made a major military concession that, while the United States would withdraw from South Vietnam, it wouldn’t require North Vietnam to withdraw its forces.
