Unfortunately having more choices doesn’t necessarily mean people get any smarter. In Finland we have about 20-ish registered political parties (in a country of 5 million) and we now have a far right government that lied its way into power, gutted our welfare system, destroyed public healthcare, significantly weakened worker protection from getting fired spuriously, made political strikes illegal to stop people protesting them, and has multiple literal neo-Nazis in it.
That’s not correct as far as I can tell. The backdoored code ended up in release tarballs (but not source tarballs because of autoconf fuckery), see eg. this mailing list discussion.
