Basically, I’m building a home and getting it wired with Ethernet cabling. I didn’t want to get too much into the technical details, so I just provided the builders with locations where I want RJ45 ports, along with one spot where I just said “24-port patch panel” (the number of ports located elsewhere being 22....
Hello, I’m looking for a budget switch, second hand or new, which has the following:...

Some background: I have a Synology NAS already with plenty of space on it. It runs my Jellyfin server in a docker container. I also have a Raspberry Pi 3b running Pihole....
Two friends and I would like to build a PC as a server in my house. The idea would be to have a headless server with 3 VMs. I was wondering what would be the best thing to do so that everyone could have their own private space, while optimizing disk space as much as possible (1TB M.2 SSD + 8TB HDD via RAID1). Each of us could...
About a year go I bought one of those fanless four port routers. Ordered one with a celeron, they sent me one with an 11th gen i3. Since then, core temps will regularly spike to 100c and it will throttle. Took it apart and found this as a cooling solution, which I’m sure would work fine with a celeron, but they gave me an i3...
Hi, could you help me and recommend a good upgrade for my (dated) home server?...
I thought would ask here (just joined the Lemmy world) but surely there must be a truenas community somewhere on the Lemmy world? Any Truenas users here?
I just recently got 1 gigabit up/down at home when they put in fiber. Now I’m looking for a router/firewall to use. I run a homelab with a few VMs....
Does anyone knows why most Epyc CPUs and MB on eBay are shipping from China? Does anyone here has experience buying a used CPU/MB from China?
Sorry, I’m not very used with server stuff, if I buy an Intel CPU without an integrated GPU like most Xeon, then I wouldn’t have enough pcie lanes for a GPU because all is taken for nvme drives...
I’m pretty much new to all things homelab as I’ve only started looking into it because of my job. I’m relatively new to my position (first job I got after getting my degree), so I wanted to learn more about virtualization and other related tools that could help me....
EDIT: It seems something is causing my wireguard hanshake to fail. I can’t find much on this particular error except “try rebooting the wg server”. I rebooted everything, and I can’t get it to connect unless the clients are already connected to the home wifi....
I’ve spent far longer than expected to set up an VLAN on my network for IoT devices which I don’t want to have access to the internet. I’m running RB4011iGS+ router with RouterOS 6.48.4 and what I thought was a simple change took the whole network down for a while....

I’m very new to home networking. I’m not new to computers (hardware or software) - but for whatever reason, anything network-related has always been an enigma to me....
I recently obtained a Dell t620 that I’ve rack mounted, and I’m using to upgradey homelab. I’m also thinking I should upgrade my routernsince I’m having to reconfigure a lot with the new server(I have a 12 year old Netgear wireless router)....
I've noticed recently that my network speed isn't what I would expect from a 10Gb network. For reference, I have a Proxmox server and a TrueNAS server, both connected to my primary switch with DAC. I've tested the speed by transferring files from the NAS with SMB and by using OpenSpeedTest running on a VM in Proxmox....
My Internet provider just installed a 2,5/1Gbps Internet connection and I've asked the guys to run a couple of their fiber to connect my router (HP Prodesk with OPNsense) to my server....
So, I finally got this project (PiAlert) working how I'd like....
I want a switch with a few POE ports but it needs to be as low power as possible as I rely in solar....
I’ve used fail2ban in the past on Ubuntu, and it was very easy to setup....
I had been having issues with my udm pro running hot and frequently overheating and powering off. It is out of warranty now and I wouldn’t give ubiquity another dime but want to avoid replacing my network stack for as long as possible....
Am gizmo shopping and would like some smart door locks. Figured y’all might have some recommendations on things that play nice with Home Assistant if networked, and generally don’t suck....
