I am currently looking into upgrading storage for my homelab. The two routes I am looking at are grabbing a dell r730 or a disk array. They are both about the same price, but my major purchase concern is heat and noise. My office/homelab is in a 10x10 foot room. I have worked hard to get the sound floor at my desk to be around...
I am trying to figure out the optimal way to connect an 8 bay drive enclosure to a Dell Optiplex 7040 Micro. The end goal is to have the drives made available to a Proxmox cluster and kubernetes cluster. This is all for learning experience as well as to run services for personal use....
I just received my supermicro x9dr3-f motherboard, which has two cpu 8pin connectors for power, while the power supply I was going to use only has 1. I’m only going to be using a single e5 2667 v2 with it, do I really need to buy a new psu?...
I have a bunch of equipment on my rack that has AC adapters as part of the cable. How do people manage those so that they’re secured and out of the way?
I’ve got both Heimdall and Pi-Hole running in docker. They both work fine, but I’d like to get the Pi-Hole advanced statistics in Heimdall. The others, I just put on the bridge network, but I’m not sure I can have the Pi-Hole on bridge and the macvlan network. Is that possible, or is there a better way to accomplish this?
So I’m trying to build a router. Just need something to handle the networking in my house and the plan is to separate things out via virtual local area networks. Anyway, reading a bunch of threads and comments, I think my design will be something akin to this. Is this good or bad? Ultimately I wanna run OPNSense since that’s...
I used to use an old Linksys WRT54GL v1.1 router for the purpose of testing homelab setups, but I have recently found that, as of 2022, it is unsupported by OpenWRT. So, I am now looking for a router to replace my old one. I don’t need anything fancy – I just need a router with WiFi connectivity (2.4GHz is fine, but 5GHz is,...
Anyone have any advice on how to choose between TruNAS, openmediavault, etc for homelab. I want to run nextcloud and jellyfin and maybe some VMs, though I also don’t really think that RAID is the best option for future proofing but I could be wrong.
Recently, Comcast did some “upgrades” which caused Pfsense to be unable to ping their gateway. Because of this, my gateway is showing that it is down all the time now, as it is not replying to ICMP requests....
I’m looking in to upgrading my home lab setup with a rack and a rack mount case. I live in EU so it would be nice if you can give any input on where to buy networking equipment/supplies, case and a rack....
Looking at the amount of PoE splitters and how much people hate having too many power bricks, I was wondering of anybody is doing something unconventional with PoE at their homelab?...
Without SSL on the LAN side of a reverse proxy, I presume that all traffic between the server and the reverse proxy is unencrypted and, thus, accessible to any device on the LAN....
