Having some comfort issues with the emojier

Since updating to Plasma 6, the keyboard cursor seems to be focused to some unknown location in emojier. I end up having to press tab twice, to get to search, then press enter, and then I'm able to type. However I can't select any particular emoji via keyboard anymore, only by mouse.

Before the update, it used to default to search, and a tab would place you into the emoji box so you could press enter on one to copy it to clipboard.

So I have three separate exploratory questions:
I'd like to know if there's any configuration for this utility? And if I can't configure it back to the old behavior, can I fallback to a prior version/how? Is there any alternative software for emoji picking maybe?

tried to build from source just to see if I could locate the issue myself, but didn't have any luck. Then decided give emoji-pick (ibus typing booster) a try, and quickly learned IME's are far too complex and I have no idea what I'm doing. (I could get it to work inside it's own shortcut editor, but nowhere else. Not even sure how to check what input method my system is using)

Don't ask me why I just wasted 3 days for emojis - you'd think I'd have given up sooner

This should be an easy fix. The initial position of the cursor is defined in the apps to my knowledge.
