Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter in ‘final chapter’, ex-president’s grandson says ( www.theguardian.com )

The first three paragraphs:

Jimmy Carter and his wife, Rosalynn Carter, are “still holding hands” as they enter their “final chapter” together at home in Plains, Georgia, the former US president’s grandson said.

“It’s clear we’re in the final chapter,” Josh Carter said of his grandparents, the first couple between 1977 and 1981, in an interview published by People magazine on Saturday.

Jimmy Carter, 98, entered hospice care in February, seeking “to spend his remaining time at home with his family”. In May, the Carter family announced that Rosalynn Carter, 96, has dementia.

Shucks, I thought he would out live Henry Kissinger. Still, quite a long time in hospice. Enough time to see a corrupt president get charged, even if it wasn’t the one that he followed. (Well, followed after his VP pardoned him and took over for a bit.)

Irrespective of your politcs, he is a truly admirable man, who has lived a life of real service. IMHO, the world could use lots more men of his character.

I have a feeling people from El Salvador, Nicaragua, East Timor and the Middle East might not want to admire him much, what with the support of dictators and funding of genocide

He might not be the best president but he might be the best person to be president.

It was inevitable that it would happen sooner or later, but it’s still sad news. Carter was one of the best, and he will be missed.
