ATQ , to Personal Finance in Landlords should have to pay income tax on their rental properties regardless of whether they're rented out or not.

Oh, so you just want the state to be your landlord? Enjoy your cinderblock gulag.

You’re just describing a mortgage.

They pay for it to be built. Unless you think the workers should work for free and not receive any benefit from their labor. Does hexbear know you feel this way? 🤣

I’m not even sure why I’d respond to someone as intellectually dishonest as you. But if you want to live in a shelter, your shelter has to be paid for. If you can’t pay for the full construction costs yourself then you have to get a loan and the bank gets paid. If you can’t get a loan, then you have to pay someone that can get a loan and that person gets paid. This isn’t a hard concept.

If you’d like to argue that the state should provide a minimum shelter for every individual, then that’s a interesting conversation that we can have. But a simple “landlords shouldn’t exist” is an unbelievably ignorant position held only by children and morons. Because even if a “the state provides shelter” scenario it’s the state that is your landlord.

And do the construction workers build housing for free? Or do they deserve to be paid?

That’s what they want. The Sedition Caucus was elected to break the government so the rest of the ‘Pubs can campaign on how government doesn’t work.

ATQ , to Personal Finance in What are your best tips to save money?

Hi OP. Keeping your spending from getting out of control is important. But most people, especially in today economy, don’t have a spending problem, they have an income problem. There’s a finite limit to the ability to cut expenses. Once the “rice and beans” answers you’ve already received are implemented the only viable strategy is to find ways to increase income.

ATQ , to Personal Finance in Are you satisfied with your current pay?

This is where I’ve been for a couple of years now. Could I make more money and have more responsibility? Absolutely. But I make plenty, I work with good people, and I “work” from home twice a week. My week is 10 hours of real work, 10 hours of meetings about that work, and 20 hours of fucking around waiting for other people to finish their work. I do most of my fucking around at home where I can do whatever I want. Do I really want to give up this slack ass job to chase a 10->15% raise? I’m not sure I do.

ATQ , to Personal Finance in How to curb unnecessary consumer impulses?

I hate to link back to Reddit, but the /r/personalfinance sidebar had great information. Especially the flow chart. Start there. Best of luck!

ATQ , to Personal Finance in How to curb unnecessary consumer impulses?

Invest a portion of your disposable income automatically, and make “paying yourself” the first bill you pay. But make sure a portion of your disposable income is also fun money. That is what you can impulse spend, no questions asked. But when it’s gone, it’s gone. This whole process is just budgeting. You’re an adult and make reasonable money. You can be an adult with this too. You don’t have to trick yourself.

ATQ , (edited ) to Personal Finance in [Daily discussion] How do you deal with relatives or friends making bad financial decisions?

I mind my own business unless my friends or relatives ask my opinion. If they do, I remember that they’re adults who can make their own choices, including whether or not to follow my advice.

ATQ , to Personal Finance in Resources on learning how to build a retirement portfolio?

OP, unless you have a very large amount of money you can absolutely manage your own retirement. And it’s even easier than you think. Check out the three fund portfolio and other Boglehead articles for answers to your questions.
