CmdrShepard , to Home Improvement in My AC drain gets clogged every so often. Any trips for a more permanent fix?

Water sensors are a cheap investment that can be reused later. You can also buy inexpensive ones from Tuya or Aqara that are smart and should be able to notify you on your phone over just a simple one that beeps.

CmdrShepard , to Personal Finance in Buying a used car, best source for financing?

This is the way to go. Find the car you want online first, secure financing from a local CU second (shop around), and then go to the dealership third. Don’t walk in without the financing or they’ll give you some BS high rate even with excellent credit.

CmdrShepard , to Star Trek in Braga: ‘I still cringe when I hear it.’ Apparently, it was a long road to the franchise’s most despised title music

I hated it until they changed it in season 2 or 3 and then I realized that I hated the new version even more and in retrospect the original wasn’t quite that bad.

CmdrShepard , (edited ) to Star Trek in Anyone else out there who actually really loved Discovery's S1 style of Klingons?

On the viewer’s part or the creator’s?

If the former, how far do you take it? Instead of Picard’s complicated, diplomatic solutions to complex problems, what if he just used mind control to resolve every conflict? What if they just made the Enterprise’s shields invincible to damage so there’s never a risk of the ship getting damaged? The show has to exist within a framework of rules and ‘truths,’ for lack of a better word, or everything becomes meaningless because nothing matters and there are no stakes.

If the latter, I’d have to agree. It has to be difficult to jump into a franchise with so much history, but it feels like they changed the Klingons just so they could put their own “stamp” on the show. What reason is there to change them in the first place? Humans and Vulcans still look the same.

Plus with the success of The Orville, it shows that you don’t need to do a ‘gritty reboot’ to be successful in modern times. The Orville is basically off-brand TNG.

I’d be more worried about mold than lint.

CmdrShepard , to Home Improvement in Fixing my drain required breaking laws, pissing off IRC users, breaking tools…

I subscribe to a Youtube channel of a guy who does nothing but clean drains with a pressure washer setup and have looked at doing similar work on my own house and it’s actually pretty reasonable (like $120). I’m sure OP spent more in time and money than that and could have possibly damage their plumbing with the chemical cocktails.

From watching enough videos, OP’s clog may have been from wipes, sanitary products, roots, grease/fat, or a broken pipe. Almost none of these can be fixed with chemicals.

CmdrShepard , to Star Trek in What other shows to watch for fans of Star Trek?

I binged all 10 seasons and while the last couple were a drag to get through, I totally enjoyed it. The episodic format is great.

Also enjoyed Atlantis though I was skeptical of it and the characters at first, but they really grew on me.

I also enjoyed Universe but it was more of a dark, gritty show along the same vein as BSG. It got canceled pretty quickly so there isn’t much to get into though.

I’m a huge fan of the first few seasons. When Amazon bought them I feel the quality really dropped (especially in the set pieces/visual effects) but the story is still good. A lot of people didn’t care for the first season or Miller’s character but I really enjoyed it.

CmdrShepard , to Star Trek in What is everyone's favorite era of starship design?

But, my favorite ship is the Omega class destroyer from Babylon 5. (sue me)

If you’re referring to Discovery, I think the whole time jump saved the show. I really struggled through the first couple seasons but now I look forward to new episodes. It’s still not peak Trek, but I’ve been waiting for something that doesn’t center around Kirk or the Kirk era (similar to Star Wars and the Skywalkers) but instead jumps further ahead than previous eras for decades now.
