If it does, then Ron DeSantis will have a lot of explaining to do to his sycophants when he reaches out for federal aid. I hope if that happens, his aid is held up until he reverses his fascist course.

Have you thought about building your own? You build a server out of a case like this IN WIN. What OS do you plan to use? Do you need Windows share ability? Are you willing to go with larger SSDs instead of spinning disks? If you give me some more details, I might be able to help you. I am not a fan of Dell.

That just read like a whole bunch of corporate whining. Looks like I won’t be using anything HashiCorp related. Don’t press on my back and tell me it’s raining. This BSL license is not free open source. Fuck off with that shit.

I am truly no fan of containerization. I only will containerize an app once I understand what it is doing fully. Otherwise, I think containerization is merely an abstraction layer for someone who wants to get up and running quickly which is I think is not advisable. That’s my 0.02 anyways.

I am not a fan of the way they do their setup procedure. I have no way of validating their install script other than to download it and go line by line to make certain it’s not malware. I think I’ll skip it. Hard pass but thanks.

Okay, then I think you will be good with around 2GB and 2 cores. I cannot speak highly enough for using Unbound or NSD. As of about two or three years ago, an authoritative DNS capability was added to Unbound and I cannot speak highly enough of it. I’ve used Unbound in production reliably for that long. After moving my domains to Cloudflare though, I found DNS resolution to be speedier simply because the DNS servers sit on an isolated segment instead of mixing traffic so I went that way. But I would go back to using Unbound in a heartbeat if Cloudflare decided to do something stupid. Which is always a distinct possibility because, well, it’s Cloudflare.

Is this being hosted in a VM that would be on-premises or cloud hosted? Is this going to be Windows-based or Linux/BSD based? It generally does not take a whole lot of computational horsepower to handle a lot of DNS requests. If you’re doing to handle DNS using Linux and don’t need dynamic update capability, you would be just fine using something like Unbound or NSD. I’d recommend maybe 2G of RAM and minimum 2 cores allocated. Now Windows will be much different. You’ll need more horsepower than that.

I’d like to apply because I am always looking for someone passionate about open source, Linux, and BSD - also networks galore. I currently run my own Mastodon and Lemmy instances. Please look me up on Mastodon at HousePanther. I am sorry your friend turned out to be an asshole and did you dirty. That’s not cool at all! There are good people out there.

I’m really and truly all for not normalizing the grind and grind culture as I hate it. But right now, I’ve got to do it. I’ve got to put in time outside of work on this free online class on web development called The Odin Project because the thought of 20 more years in desktop support sickens me. So if I must grind out a year to improve my life, so sadly be it. I’m going to take a cat nap, recharge, and hit the books.
