Paywalled

Mongostein ,

Man, we need a general journalism fund. I want to pay for quality journalism, but I can’t afford a subscription to every single newspaper out there.

So how about we get an organization created to hold our funds or charge credit cards by the article and we can choose which ones we want to read?

If Spotify could do it with music I don’t see why the same can’t be done for news

Mongostein ,

Yeah, but Spotify pays garbage rates. I’d rather it be a non-profit so the money actually goes to the journalists.

Also, I think Canada should hold Spotify to the same cancon rates that radio stations pay if they want to operate here.

While I agree with you, I wasn’t going into the specifics of Spotify. Apple Music, tidal, etc all do the same thing.

I think we’d all like non-profits doing this stuff since the content creators get more and we pay less. Maintaining a platform like that without profit isn’t going to attract a whole lot of talent unfortunately.

Mongostein ,

Non-profits still pay their employees. The incentive would be to do the right thing. I’d rather my Spotify subscription go to the artists and not be spent on developing an AI DJ no one asked for.
