TheFactory - Day 4 - Trains! ( poptalk.scrubbles.tech )

Another update to the factory, Tiers 5 and 6 are unlocked, and now comes my specialty - the rail network.

Yesterday I paved over the Swamp, the new location of our next Hub. The second half of the day was spent building the East Coast Mainline, shown here. Right now going from Dune Desert to Swamp, and soon to be extended to Grassy Fields

If only the trains worked like Factorio, better even with LTN.

For those that havent palyed factorio with LTN, trains in default state wait at a depot. When there is a matching provider and demanding station, a train gets dispatched to fulfill the request. After gaving done so, the train returns to the depot.

You cannot do this in Satisfactory, not even modded, because of (afaik) the different way how trains are being ‘driven’ (pathing) in Satisfactory vs Factorio.

Trains are definitely different in Satisfactory, but you get the hang of it and learn how to optimize for them. I’d say they’re closer to model trains, they have a set route and just do their dropoffs/pickups and keep going.

If you are building in Satisfactory and need help with trians and their quirks, please don’t hesitate to ask!

Thanks. I think there is no better way currently then setting the schedule to only drop off full cargo at the recieving station, OR wait 150000 seconds (15 being the default, its easier to add a few zero’s).

For Factorio or Satisfactory?

Satisfactory it’s honestly just easier to treat it like a conveyor - by that I mean there is a constant flow in and out, the train just buffers that. Like how we think of the internet being a constant flow but really it’s a series of buffers

I usually plan for a train car to get about 1/2 full while it waits for the train to come back. I don’t remember how many stacks that is, but of course you don’t want to car (buffer) to fill up and then you’re constantly behind.

I usually run my trains at 2 engines followed by 10 cars, that’s usually a very good amount where you can standardize your stations, and give you plenty of room if you fill one car there’s usually another free car on the train to add on to.
