People who say that tend to be people who don't ever visit Tacoma and don't know what they're talking about.

Every big city has crime. The Seattle metro area is safer than most.

I hear gunshots in Seattle from time to time. Any city has them to one degree or another.

If I were working in Seattle, I would avoid Tacoma just because of the long commute. Traffic on I-5 can get so backed up around Tacoma and Fife (if they’re driving).
