How the hell. I'm in Seattle and watched it and it was so faint, barely visible at all. You wouldn't have even noticed it if you weren't looking for it.

Drusas ,

I read local and state news every damn day and this didn't make either of them. Thanks for sharing.

Drusas , (edited )

I'm in Seattle, and just a few minutes ago, it was sunny and sleeting at my place.

Edit: Now there is hail.

Drusas ,

Damn, I didn't see this until today. I've got so many seeds that I should share with people instead of continuing to amass.

Drusas ,

Welcome to Washington, where the cops routinely get away with murder even despite allegedly progressive politics.

Those Tacoma cops getting off on the murder of Manny Ellis has to be the worst miscarriage of justice I've seen in a good few years.

Drusas ,

It's even worse than the headline makes it sound. These are 17-year veterans, one of whom said responding to priority calls stresses him out, while the other is a trainer.

According to a case summary published late last month by the civilian-run Office of Police Accountability, it took the two officers over 20 minutes to arrive, only to report “everything looks fine” and initially write the incident off as a disturbance.

Shortly thereafter, a man showed up at Harborview Medical Center with a gunshot wound to his arm, suffered in the shooting the officers didn’t investigate, according to the case summary.

OPA found the two officers had violated professionalism standards and failed in their job to protect the community. Chief Adrian Diaz agreed with the findings, giving both officers nine-hour suspensions, which were first reported by DivestSPD, a digital site associated with the Seattle Democratic Socialists of America.

The OPA removes the names of disciplined officers from its published case summaries.

One of them, a 17-year SPD veteran, said he was relying on his experience to determine when a priority call is actually a priority. In this incident, he told OPA investigators, he was sure the victim would be gone when police arrived, which turned out to be the case.

Moreover, he said that a lights-and-siren response “heightens my stress level” and can become a public-safety issue for other drivers on the road.

“We showed up. We didn’t find a scene. We didn’t find any shell casings,” he told investigators.

The other officer, also a 17-year veteran and a training officer, speculated that they had stopped at the rank-and-file union headquarters to have dinner, take a break, get snacks or use the restroom.

He acknowledged that a “typical response” to a priority one call is: “Drop the meal, drop the report, and go.”

“[The officer] did not recall why he did not do that for this call,” the OPA case summary explains.

Drusas OP ,

Yes, that's the type I meant.

Drusas OP ,

Yeah, I will at least try to speak with the neighbor about it before I do anything. With the way the properties are set up, they barely even see the fence, whereas for me, it's kind of front and center in my backyard. I expect they may be surprised when I point out that it's technically their fence.

It is a chain link fence. A top rail sounds like a good idea which wouldn't be too unattractive or hard to install. I'd sure love to replace it with a proper wooden fence because the privacy in my backyard is severely lacking when they're on their front stoop or in their driveway, but with the grade and the need to remove the current fence, it would be very expensive.

Drusas OP ,

I wish the fencing company could be on the hook for it, but I'm pretty sure that fence has been there for a few decades. No idea who installed it.

Drusas OP ,

That doesn't look too bad.

Drusas OP ,

I thought of that, but considering the location, definitely not.

Drusas OP ,

Sadly does not appear possible.

Drusas OP ,

That sure is ugly but it looks effective.

Drusas OP ,

Grinding the ends down might be a reasonable option.

Drusas OP ,

I wish, but my side is a retaining wall.

Drusas ,

People are scum.

I'd look at the local ranchers in this particular case.

Drusas ,

As someone with a newfie, I assure you that you cannot.

Drusas ,

Maybe we can't say no to your face, either.

When a government attempts to discredit The Hague, it's a sign something has gone terribly wrong in that country. My latest:

This is not the correct magazine for sharing cartoons.

    Drusas ,

The Idaho Senate voted Thursday 27-8 to advance a bill that defines “domestic terrorism” as requiring the involvement of foreign groups. According to the bill, if there’s no foreign involvement, then there can be no domestic terrorism.

That is the opposite of what "domestic" means.

    Drusas ,

I'm not sure I can agree that ignoring the Constitution is good for democracy. Especially when it comes to disqualifying insurrectionists. But hopefully you're right about the outcome.

Seattle cold snap continues with temps in the teens, high of 25 ( www.seattletimes.com )

Temperatures fell to 14 degrees overnight in Seattle, ushering in a bleak and biting chill the city hasn’t seen for over a decade. Temperatures are unlikely to surpass a high of 25 degrees Saturday as a blanket of clouds settles over the city....

    Drusas ,

When the power goes out, I'm very glad I have winter camping gear. I can easily dress up all cozily, put myself in a sleeping bag or under a quilt, and I'm pretty good to go.

    Drusas ,

This time, we don't even get to see hilarious videos of people trying to walk on frozen hills and cars just sliding straight down.

    Drusas ,

The early schedule is to benefit parents so that they can get to work on time after their kid gets to school or leaves for school. It doesn't do the kids any favors.

    Drusas ,

I don't disagree. I'm just saying that a lot of parents would be very against the change because they and their employers are not prepared to deal with it.

    Drusas ,

That's our local PD, folks. Seattle Police Department currently trying to get out of a consent decree that they even acknowledge they haven't met the requirements of.

Largely because of lack of accountability.

    Drusas ,

Black eyes. Like a doll's eyes.

    Drusas ,

My one dog has been sick for a few days, so she's on a special diet which happens to include novelties like boiled chicken or fish. My other dog looks at me like I've betrayed her every time I feed the sick dog a bunch of chicken or fish with rice and she gets kibble with just a bit of chicken or fish on it.

    Drusas ,

'Efficiency' is phrasing it very generously.

    Drusas ,

Maybe it's because I am on kbin, but am I the only one here seeing a chubby pussface as the thumbnail here? It might be Boebert? I don't know.

    Drusas ,

This location is not close to the Amtrak station and isn't especially close to the light rail, but it does have some other public transit, mostly buses. And it's not too crazy to walk to the light rail, just not really close.

It's still a good location with lots of amenities, just not super for light rail/train service.

Source: I live here, have been to the area many times using public transit/walking.

    Drusas ,

That general area is absolutely fantastic for public transit. I used to live in the International District, and the easy access to transit was really fantastic. Everything right there: light rail, streetcar, Amtrak, and for the drivers, I-5 and I-90. Also walkable to a lot of locations. Really great, livable neighborhood overall. Too bad it tends to get neglected.

    Drusas ,

    How about read the article?

He doesn't want to send American troops there. He wants to give Ukraine all the aid they need as quickly as possible in order to avoid that rather than drawing it out as the Republicans have started to do over these last few months. The sooner Russia can be stopped, the better for the world. It's not just about Ukraine.

    Drusas ,

So cute. My mother used to have a British shorthair and he always looked angry, but he was the sweetest little thing. Liked jumping on shoulders.

    Drusas ,

They need wage slaves even more so.

    Drusas ,

Everything about this is awful, from the criminalizing of a natural body function to the racism to a 33-year-old woman being called a "girl".

    Drusas ,

How to make thin hamster is one of the best videos that has ever graced the internet and everyone should watch the original version.

    Drusas ,

The article doesn't say anything about pictures of faces, just generic age verification.

    Drusas ,

If only. But then who would they bitch to about the "migrant crisis" and come to for aid when their power system fails again?

    Drusas ,

I don't know. Going to need some more examples to be sure.

    Drusas ,

Hmm, yes. I'm beginning to see it.

    Drusas ,

That's largely because we millennials already uncovered the unfairness for them. They don't have to figure it out; they just have to act against it.

I still give them credit for that, but it's not as though they walked in without having the previous generation's help getting started. We tried with Occupy Wall Street and failed. Maybe they'll try again and succeed someday.
