JAWNEHBOY , in That time I went on the world's largest indoor Ferris wheel, and it was just as underwhelming and weird as it sounds.

What was underwhelming? Nothing much to see around from the top?

Ok, I’ll bite. Where did you grow up that you have never seen snow?

To be fair, “hammered” is more accurate. You had my interest piqued though, with “punched”. I was half-expecting some ancient Shao-Lin kungfoolery. Still, impressive and a neat effect, I agree. 🤙🏼

Kittybeer OP ,

Ha! That’s funny. I almost said “pierced” but went with “punched” instead. I think that word was in my head after reading this: “A close inspection of the following photograph from the lower temple illustrates that the holes were ‘drilled’ and not just randomly punched as one might assume.” from a website I just read: www.ancient-wisdom.com/maltamnajdra.htm because I couldn’t remember which temple I took this picture at.

Touching_Grass , in That time I was in Abu Dhabi on their national day, and it was too hot for people to be walking, so they sent their air force on a parade through the city center instead.

I got to visit there once and something I never understood was why the whole city seemed to go home in the evening and the return in new clothes

biffnix , in That time I went to Bagan to see the sunrise, and all kinds of hot air balloons got in my way.

Very nice!

Goodness that looks expensive. Makes sense, Ashgabat is known for decorating well.

Dude, is the hole still burning?

BjornFree OP ,

Like after a good vindaloo meal. But they’ve built a fence around it now, so it feels a bit less wild, I would imagine.

That’s quite a weird way to say “Stargate”

Beautiful picture, really gives me Persona vibes

Those billboards must not be animated.

simonced ,

Actually, they should, I went there a couple year ago, and I remember the iconic running character one changing from time to time. I don’t recall if it’s an animation or a slide, but I am pretty sure it changed.

Also, I can’t imagine those other boards are all NOT animated.
Something is weird here.

The picture quality is astonishing though, that’s for sure…

Anime art vibes

@thrawn21@lemmy.world avatar

Very cool, I’ve always wanted to visit Longyearbyen. How long did you stay and what all did you do?

BjornFree OP ,

I stayed quite a while, and did as much as I can. :) I got a long-term place to stay and used it as a kind of workation. The bandwidth is great (5G), and there’s a good mix of heavy storms and awesome weather, so it’s good to stay a while to be able to wait for the good days. Some people visit for a week, and all they see is a blizzard and plane delays. But when it’s good, it’s excellent!

Hey, it’s the bridge they threw the Colonel off of.
