'It’s A Terrible Thing': DC Flash Flood Kills Dogs At Pet Care Site ( patch.com )

Heavy rains caused flash flooding in Washington D.C. that inundated a dog daycare business called District Dogs. Six feet of floodwater pushed in a wall and collapsed, allowing water to fill the building. Firefighters rescued seven employees and 20 dogs from the flooding, but some dogs unfortunately drowned due to the sudden rising water. Owners waited anxiously outside as rescuers brought out the animals. The fire chief commended the brave employees who tried to save the dogs in the dangerous conditions. The dog daycare owner expressed heartbreak over the tragic event and thanked first responders for their quick action. A new tunnel is expected to help mitigate flooding in the area in the future.
