iMessage gets a major makeover that puts it on equal footing with Signal

How Kybers and ratcheting are boosting the resiliency of Apple's messaging app.

@arstechnica
Ars is normally on point, but this headline is wrong. In order to be on equal footing, Apple would need to not be in control of the encryption keys. But they are, so really, Apple can insert themselves (or Governments) in between your conversations whenever they please without your noticing. Plus, their code isn't open source and audited.

I can't imagine the frustration that (probably most) of the reasonable parents must feel.

White House to weaken climate-fighting fuel efficiency targets for 2030

The plan faced opposition from OEMs, car dealers, and the United Auto Workers.

@arstechnica Shame. Fighting climate change is going to be painful. This is a reality, and these groups help put us where we are, it's only right they take their fair share of the pain and take on the responsibility of meeting those tougher targets.

CDC to update its COVID isolation guidance, ditching 5-day rule: Report

The agency is reportedly moving from the fixed time to a symptom-based isolation period.

@arstechnica Far too ambiguous...I never even had a fever when I had it. My wife didn't either. Mild symptoms should be a red flag. It should be, minimum, no symptoms, and a negative test. I'd also put a 14 day isolation period on it.

The disease doesn't go away just because businesses don't want people to take sick days.

@arstechnica If any company actually had compassion for their workers, they'd cut the compensation of C-suite positions FIRST, and well before any . They should take responsibility for mismanagement and overspending by making their own sacrifices, especially since they were calling the shots. That none of these companies are considering lowering CEO pay first shows the cuts aren't about saving money, they're about greed and taking back power from the general workforce. It's class-warfare
