Well, it continued to increase post-pandemic as well. And even this dip in crime may be a transient state that does not keep decreasing.

My best explanation for this is that obviously people got desperate and the economy is one of the biggest predictors of crime. So inflation is also partially responsible for crime.

Not to mention that, despite me being very opposed to conservative narratives, I can see that policing was greatly disrupted by the protests in 2020/2021. They continue to be ineffective in most large cities basically. The US still has a long way to go on handling crime and criminals.

Precisely, they’re doing the same stuff as always. Police have a maximum affect on crime in an area. And city police can be particularly bad about certain types of crime where increasing the amount of police can lead to worse effects instead of better ones.

The protests were in large part a response about the damage that police do to communities and also about how they frequently escalate situations.

So what I’m speaking to here is that our society correctly pointed out the disadvantages of policing. And then correctly took funds from police. However, not many tools that would serve people better are in place.

It makes it really easy for “law and order” types of people to just tell us to go back to the same system we had before. And some of those tools take a long time to be effective but we have to start somewhere. Here ain’t it.

No. It’s an open secret kind of deal that most online advertisements don’t actually sell or do anything. In fact, a large amount of google views are bots.

How? Because there’s nothing stopping thousands of apps from using the ads incorrectly and showing them to phones or accounts or users that aren’t real people. At least with iOS, it’s very hard to run instances on servers or bot clients. Meanwhile, android can run on windows. Exploits galore.

But, no one cares. The companies are told to spend more on advertisement. The ad department of the company has a budget, they don’t care where it’s spent. So they buy ads from google and they don’t care who they get shown to 90% of the time. Everyone wins except the company but the company doesn’t care because they’re already making money.

Not to mention that the average consumer is shown thousands of ads a day. The more they see the less they notice the ads.

Basically ads are just designed to waste time for everyone. Truth social ads just lead to more installs by people already looking for their garbage app.

What to know about Ohio special election at center of abortion fight ( thehill.com )

Ohio’s special election on Tuesday could raise the threshold for amending the state’s constitution and have a potentially critical impact on the future of abortion rights in the state. With few other elections happening in an off year, a ballot measure in Ohio that would enshrine abortion rights in its constitution will be...

Just FYI: You can help promote the by cross-posting.

There's still a sizable userbase on and many Kbin/Fediverse users still use Reddit. That's fine. You can help in a small way by posting interesting content on both platforms, then mentioning "This post is also available on the Fediverse here:".

This will at the very least begin discussions about alternate platforms and I highly doubt Reddit can find any rule to fault you for doing so. This is also how Digg started leaking users to Reddit, so it works. Exposure is key. You may make a new user, or get a developer interested in contributing who wasn't aware of the Fediverse before, or didn't think it was significant.

This is absolutely a great idea. Even better if done with good OC. I can’t in good conscience use Reddit unless I’m helping people leave the platform
