Drusas OP , to Politics in News: 'Do not release the dog with his hands up!': Black man mauled by police canine following Ohio pursuit

My thought exactly. He probably didn't stop because he knew he was targeted and was in danger. And he was right.

Drusas , to Politics in [Analysis] 'People are hungry for more choices': Inside the Green Party's push for 2024

So what are you doing and recommending? Voting and campaigning are currently the only ways available to keep fascists out, unless you are suggesting violent revolution.

Okay, so what's keeping Democrats from offering something enticing?

Bribery campaign donations and lobbying.

Both parties are shit, but that doesn't mean that we should allow the shittier one to reign.

This is why I specifically say "left-leaning".

Drusas , to Seattle in Seattle activists occupy old cedar tree to stop it being cut down for housing

They want the housing to be built around it and the tree preserved. A perfectly reasonable compromise at a time when we need both more housing and more green space/canopy cover.

And anyway, having that tree there will increase those property values.

I appreciate your optimism.

Edit: Kbin bug won't let me nest this where it belongs, but I'm leaving it.

I don't necessarily disagree. The Democratic Party has moved left in some areas, but it's pretty far right when it comes to economic ones. We need more options, but we don't have them. I suppose fracturing the vote is better than busting out the guillotines.

Drusas , to Politics in [Analysis] 'People are hungry for more choices': Inside the Green Party's push for 2024

Of course they can and they should. I personally happen to believe that the only way that can happen is to move the Democratic Party further left, until we can get rid of first past the post. Once first past the post is gone, parties will have more equal footing.

Drusas OP , to Politics in Opinion: The sweltering heat in this Louisiana prison put children's lives at risk

A Times-Picayune story about the immense heat inside prisons noted that voters in Jefferson Parish, the second-largest parish in the state, approved a new local jail in 2014 but only after leaders promised the jails wouldn’t be air-conditioned.

In other words, there are people who believe that people convicted of crimes, or merely accused of crimes, are supposed to suffer this way.

The government is subjecting people, even young people, in prison to extreme heat conditions, solitary confinement, violence and other abuses because it apparently doesn’t see such people as human. Adults sentenced to Angola have to do hard labor in the punishing sun. They are seen as the property of the state to be used as needed.

Emphasis mine. Jesus christ, people can be pure evil. I'm sure almost every one of them thinks they're a good Christian as well.

I have never in my life been registered as either Democrat or a Republican, so you're preaching to the choir there. It's still the case that a left-leaning third party historically benefits the Republican Party by diluting the left-leaning voter pool.

Drusas , to Politics in 1,626 Books Were Banned in 2022...We Reviewed Them All

Pretty sure this poster is not a bot. There are plenty of people out there who sincerely believe, shall we say, things that are factually incorrect. There are also tons of trolls. Could be either.

Drusas , to Politics in Democrats scramble to reach voters after Florida cancels mail-in ballot requests

It is very secure. Washington state has been using it for years. Every single citizen gets a ballot mailed to them for every election. It does wonders to increase voter turnout (of course, high voter turnout is largely detrimental for Republicans in elections, so they don't like this practice).

Drusas , to Politics in Analysis: Democrats put RFK Jr. on blast in change of strategy

The biggest change the new rules involve is that everyone should add a label (news, editorial, opinion, or analysis) at the beginning of their submission's title.

Drusas OP , to Politics in News: 'Do not release the dog with his hands up!': Black man mauled by police canine following Ohio pursuit

Don't forget the power tripping. That's a big part of the point as well.

Drusas , to Politics in [Analysis] 'People are hungry for more choices': Inside the Green Party's push for 2024

Frankly, I don't think third parties can do anything other than fracture a voting block until we get rid of first past the post.
