I still haven't managed to get any pictures of black bears even though I've encountered them over a dozen times in the last couple years

They always book it before I can get my camera out. But of course I usually come across them and we see each other way too close.

When picking a camera to learn on one thing to keep in mind is that you’ll be learning on it

The gear is only as good as your knowledge in how to use it

So picking something with room to grow and potentially in the future grow out of without getting something that’s super expensive (to you) is important

Go right ahead and pick up the 6400 and begin your journey into interchangeable lens cameras

Just be warned: it’s really easy to come down with a case of GAS (Gear Acquisition Syndrome) when you jump into the world of interchangeable lens cameras. Try to avoid that while learning if you can

When I still had my cat‡ making sure the dryer was closed after every load and empty before closed was something I got on my roommate’s ass about a lot

He had a hard time remembering it at first but after the first couple weeks he started remembering.

‡My cat passed away a few months ago at 18 years old. Not dryer related. He was as spry as a kitten until the last 3 months where everything went downhill fast. He passed away in July. I miss that little snuggle bug.

The holidays are pretty rough for me

A lot of terrible anniversaries happen around this time and also not really seeing very many of my relatives due to so many of them that would be at the gatherings openly wishing for my death when they do see me (and receiving little to no push back from other relatives)

So basically for me the holidays are a time where I can watch some long movies (this year the LOTR trilogy (extended cuts only)), put together some model kits, and/or painting some miniatures for my DnD group. And depending on weather I may go hiking too.

This year though I’m also going to do a small Christmas with (I think) 7 family members, which I’m really excited for.

I don’t know about ants, there’s only like 15k species of ants

Beetles though, there’s like 350k species of beetles. They’re everywhere and with so many different kinds they get all the opportunities to see cute things.

I’m doing ok

This coming Thanksgiving is looking surprisingly good compared to the last few.

I’m having lunch with 3 family members this year, unfortunately not dinner as those family members are having dinner with other relatives that refuse to associate with me. But honestly it’s better than last year where it was only 2 family members.

Some friends and I are floating the possiblity of a Thanksgiving dinner coming up which makes me very happy.

Making happy memories this time of year is hard, but the more I do it the less some of those anniversaries hurt.
