Damn that is a wild law but it came out of the bush administration and focuses on US citizens. This current bit is even more surprising to me, particularly because it’s being supported by democrats too. Democrats usually at least like to come up with a reasonable sounding excuse for their military aggression but I don’t even see that here.
It seems absolutely insane to me that there is any level of support for this idea. What is even the allegation against the ICC? That it did something that undermined US geopolitical interests? It’s not an international court if it’s the puppet of a single country.
This doesn’t specify you’re discussing issues around gender though.
Personally I am not bothered by the word feminism but in general I find this type of minute language critiquing to not be very useful. I care more for the meanings and intentions behind words than their etymology. Feminism is a word that is almost universally used to mean egalitarianism regarding gender, and it has a long history and deep literature in support of that idea. For those reasons, I don’t think there will be consensus around changing it but if there was I would go along with it. As I said, it doesn’t seem like a very important issue here.
Sounds like federation is more theoretical than real at this point. I don’t see much point in one way federation. But does this mean that threads users could pop into this thread and comment?
Of course not. We have to use our bargaining power to make them care. But first people have to be aware of the idea. I’m glad this is getting some mainstream coverage here.
I think there is wisdom and good ideas present in most and probably all societies on earth. But many of the dominant ideas from world governments aren’t really meant to improve the lives of the people as a collective—they are meant to protect or expand the power of the ruling class in that state.
Given the well-documented failures of current systems of government across the world, I agree that pluralism is valuable so that we can assess which systems lead to better outcomes.
