Trump called fallen service members "losers" and "suckers" — according to his chief of staff — he publicly accused soldiers with PTSD of not being "strong," demeaned POWs, and insulted Gold Star parents & a widow. When he pretends to honor service members today, don't believe it.

@rbreich And duly amplified, as are every day's awful statements.

After mice drink raw H5N1 milk, bird flu virus riddles their organs

No, really, drinking raw milk during the H5N1 outbreak is a bad idea.

@arstechnica It depends if the milk is infected, that bit is quite important. Not drinking raw milk is the quikfix for not dealing with infected cattle, which even if we did would be the quikfix for not doing disease prevention.

It would help us all if our food wasn't so utterly degraded and denatured and full of dodgy chemicals. But that's apparently too hard.

  • I drank raw milk up until age 15 or so. But it was a long time ago when cows didn't eat fishmeal or whatever it is nowadays.

After you die, your Steam games will be stuck in legal limbo

So much for your descendants posthumously clearing out that massive backlog...

Always wondered about this. Seems a bit of a rip off that you pay for things that then disappear when you die, which I assume is what Steam is hoping for.

In 2024, it appears facts are increasingly irrelevant as voters rely instead on “vibes" to judge their politics. There is a disturbing disconnect between objective reality and how voters feel, which is driving Trump's strength in the polls. In today's Big Picture, writer Todd Beeton digs into the root of this disconnect and explores how Biden can get facts and feelings back into alignment ahead of November. https://thinkbigpicture.substack.com/p/vibes-2024-election-trump-biden

@georgetakei If you get good vibes off Trump your vibometer might need replacing though.

Bing outage shows just how little competition Google search really has

Opinion: Actively searching without Google or Bing is harder than it looks.

@arstechnica I know we'll only get corporate fluff from themselves but anyone know what happened to the web giants this time?

When Trump openly and repeatedly exclaims that migrants are “poisoning the blood of our country,” or shares a video calling for a “unified Reich,” he is literally echoing the language of Hitler.

Trump is not a “populist.” He’s not a “strongman.” He is a fascist.

Use the word.

He's also too dim to have a vision of his own, just recycling the past. Authoritarians seem to do that a lot. It's century + 25 = must have some kind of world war.

Most of our UK politicians studied history, probably all of them in the same places, and that seems to have informed their entire and very limited view of what's "supposed" to happen and when.

73% of mothers with kids under 18 are in the workforce. More than flowers or brunch, working moms need:

  • Paid family leave
  • Equal pay
  • Universal childcare

(But get your mom flowers, too)

Corporations need parents, children can do without. That's a bit silly. Anyway cue yelling about population decline in 5...4...3...

Yelling Dah Choh Din Waaaah, I was just telling someone today how that felt, but they looked faintly bewildered, I suppose you have to have been there really.
(it means err, well kind of "wrong number, no idea", in Cantonese but it's lovely and abrupt and basically f off ish somehow - some things don't translate)
