Dandelion greens and roots are good eating
I've seen some people harvesting the greens early in the season
from public parks

Billionaires aren’t just supporting Trump for the tax cuts.

As Peter Thiel once admitted: “I no longer believe that freedom and democracy are compatible.”

Make no mistake: The goal of American oligarchy is to tear down democracy itself.

@rbreich "As Peter Thiel once admitted: 'I no longer believe that freedom and democracy are compatible.'”

Thiel was referring to his freedom, of course, not yours, mine, or ours.

50 billionaire families have spent $600 million+ on the 2024 elections, which is .06% of their total wealth.

The equivalent donation for an avg household would be ~$100.

This means 50 billionaires have the political-spending capacity of 6 million American families.

Oligarchy.

@rbreich
I would venture to say that there are enough
fossil fools in those 50 billionaire families
to call it, legitimately, an oilagarchy
especially with Trmp's recent offer
to some of those very same fossil fools.

@georgetakei Now that's food for thought but there's another saying that's just on the tip of my tongue.

The top 0.1% of Americans control $20 trillion in wealth.

The bottom 50% control $3.7 trillion in wealth.

Read that back.

Folks, this is what oligarchy looks like.

Remember: Most billionaires are not “self-made.” They’re made via a combination of inherited wealth, government subsidies, tax loopholes, labor exploitation, and policy failures. Can we stop perpetuating a myth that blames wealth inequality on the choices of everyday Americans?

If this country was truly “pro-life,” we would have Medicare for All, a Green New Deal, gun reform, universal child care, and a living wage.

The right-wing agenda isn’t about “life.”

It’s about control.

gmoke ,
@gmoke@mastodon.social avatar

@rbreich USAmerican, like almost every country, has never been "pro-life." Governments are bumbling amateurs at the concept. Unless, that is, you are rich and powerful.

@georgetakei These days Danny Trejo has a much less tough demeanor. He seems to be laughing most of the time with great gratitude for the life he's been able to build from a rocky start. Much love for Mr Trejo.
