Is it really a widespread thing for people to get in trouble for not doing this? I’ve never answered an email or phone call while off work or on vacation and not once has anyone brought it up. The only people I see doing this are the people that do it of their own free will.
Get a stabilizer bar for your extension ladder. It makes them much more stable and all the ones I’ve seen had padded feet on the ends which will also keep you from scratching up the wall.
Assuming this is on its own circuit and you’ve got the space in your panel you could make whatever repairs to the conduit you think are practical and then swap the breaker for an arc fault circuit interruptor (AFCI). That should trip under any failure conditions you are likely to experience but it won’t stop the problem from getting worse. It’s not up to code either but I wouldn’t be too concerned about it under those conditions. That’s also assuming the wire run you can see during your repairs seems to be in decent shape.
There’s really no substitute for digging it up and replacing the whole damaged section of conduit but my suggestion would be a serviceable solution if that is untenable for some reason. It certainly doesn’t come without risks but neither does the situation you’re currently in.
Yeah awareness is definitely needed for some issues but violence against women doesn’t seem like one of those issues. I’m pretty confident everyone is aware of it and no one is a fan except for the people doing it. I don’t think those kinds of people will care about a strike. If anything I’m guessing a woman in an abusive relationship is more likely to experience violence by participating in this than not.
Unequal pay sure, but how the hell is a strike supposed to stop violence against women? That’s not an economic concept that can be impacted by withholding labor. It’s a fine goal I just don’t see how a strike helps it get accomplished.
You can try to tap the boards together with a hammer and the pry tool that you used to install the boards. However, that only really works if the boards are properly connected but not fully seated.
It looks like the two in the pic are not connected at all and they’re just sitting next to each other. In that case you’d have to disassemble the floor and make sure to attach them correctly. It’s not terribly time consuming if you don’t have to cut any new pieces.
It probably will end with some poor decisions being made but sometimes a bad decision is all you can get. Hopefully it will get more meaningful discussion going at least.

Sure, all that’s true, but it doesn’t invalidate what I’m saying. I think people are angry and ready to get out the pitchforks. There’s been decades of policy debate with no actual improvements to the situation. People think politicians and the wealthy are using discussions like the one you’re trying to have to delay meaningful change rather than find an agreeable solution for all parties. That’s not to say you’re wrong but you’re assuming people want to avoid punitive action and I don’t think that’s true.
I don’t think people care about the downsides for landlords anymore. Real or imagined, perceived greed is what people blame for high rent costs. They’re ready to make greedy landlords suffer as they have and I can’t say I blame them one bit.
