I'm an old biddy, retired, interested in science, sci fi, humour, cute animal videos, real ale, good food all the usual stuff

Sadly of late I've become rather political as my Government seems intent on destroying my country & I hate politics

LGBTQ+ ally, atheist/humanist if you're religious that's OK

Religion is like a penis, it's OK to have one & be proud of it
But don't thrust it anywhere without an invite by someone old enough to understand what it is

Mac info-stealer malware distributed through Google ads

Full-service Poseidon info stealer pushed by "advertiser identity verified by Google."

@arstechnica And if we use ad blockers web sites complain or stop working

I have no objection to ads that are hosted by the site I'm visiting & the owner of that site assumes full responsibility for ensuring those ads are safe & assumes full liability for any & all damage if they aren't

Up to, and including, but not limited to buying me a new home of my choice + removal costs, changing my name, reimbursing me for any costs, monies lost & 10% of the entire package on top for damages

Apple integrates ChatGPT into Siri, iOS, and Mac OS

ChatGPT is treated like a search engine for Siri, and generates text and images for apps.

Trump's not running for office so much as running from the law.

staringatclouds ,

@rbreich And if he wins the rule of law will be the first thing to die

Then will come everyone who he imagines has humiliated him in court

Then he might calm down a bit & just imprison everyone else he doesn't like

Might doing a LOT of heavy lifting there

Tesla chair says Elon Musk needs $46 billion pay plan to stay motivated

Musk could devote less time to Tesla if pay isn't re-approved, shareholders hear.

Every day the Supreme Court fails to make a decision in Trump’s immunity case is effectively a decision in his favor.

They're acting like an arm of Trump's campaign by letting him run out the clock on his prosecution.

staringatclouds ,
@staringatclouds@mastodon.social avatar

@rbreich SCOTUS will rule that Trump is immune the second he becomes President & not one second before

They can't say he's immune while Biden is still POTUS, because that makes Biden immune & he has control of seal team 6 until the transfer of power is complete

I doubt Biden would use them but it's what a Republican president would do so they are taking no chances

SCOTUS will do everything in its power to ensure Trump is the next president

If they succeed it'll be a bloodbath

Remember: Most billionaires are not “self-made.” They’re made via a combination of inherited wealth, government subsidies, tax loopholes, labor exploitation, and policy failures. Can we stop perpetuating a myth that blames wealth inequality on the choices of everyday Americans?

staringatclouds ,
@staringatclouds@mastodon.social avatar

@rbreich No billionaires are self made

Their parents or grandparents speculated or gambled, usually with other people's money & got lucky

Once they had enough to invest, the money grew exponentially

This was then passed to their children who became today's billionaires

They didn't work for their wealth, they were handed it on a silver plate

We need to stop treating them as if they are some sort of hard working financial geniuses & start taxing them as recipients of unearned wealth

Shame it's being used to allow stochastic parrots to plagiarise other works & generate BS with no understanding of what it's producing, just a bit faster
