I want better 🇺🇸 policy debate; stronger political center. Interests: economy - esp anti-monopoly, healthcare, pro-democracy - 🦉 curious. Really appreciate meditation 🧘🏻‍♀️, health, beauty, good 🍽 & 🍷.

I HAVE A DREAM: of healthier iSpaces. Mastodon is part of manifesting that dream. May the citizens of the 🇺🇸 rise up and disrupt enshittification.

All nine Republican senators running for reelection this year just voted against the right to contraception:

John Barrasso
Marsha Blackburn
Kevin Cramer
Ted Cruz
Deb Fischer
Josh Hawley
Pete Ricketts
Rick Scott
Roger Wicker

So much for the party of "freedom."

50 billionaire families have spent $600 million+ on the 2024 elections, which is .06% of their total wealth.

The equivalent donation for an avg household would be ~$100.

This means 50 billionaires have the political-spending capacity of 6 million American families.

Oligarchy.

@rbreich

This sounds very plausible, and it's. not good for democracy...

"speech" of 50 billionaires ≠

"speech" of 6 million families

Tell me: how does it make sense that an entry-level federal employee is subject to more stringent ethics rules than Supreme Court justices?

@rbreich No. It doesn't make sense.
