[PROJECT] An application to search through Synology Photos using natural language captions ( kbin.social )

I save and backup all the photos on a Synology NAS instead of using one of the online providers. However Synology Photos doesn't have good search capabilities. So I built a project to search through the images using natural language captions, and found that it works really well....

Just a heads up, but if you favourite or boost anything, the accessibility labels don’t update to reflect this. ( kbin.social )

Lemmy have fixed this problem in the latest developer build, might be in stable by now. They replaced the buttons with toggles which screen readers can recognise. Kbin’s accessibility is top notch aside from this one problem, so chears for that. :)

What are some less-obvious items that you must have in your shop? ( kbin.social )

I'm very new to woodworking and I'm focusing on learning how to use hand tools. I'm slowly acquiring more tools and setting up my workshop, but I just know that there will be something super useful that I haven't thought about, and won't realise that I need it until I actually need it....

CTA: Create a thriving Fediverse without relying on Reddit ( kbin.social )

The Fediverse must be very careful to avoid getting branded as the "alternative to X". In my experience, platforms that have historically branded themselves as "alternative to" or "anti-" have generally not done well. Learned this from the last Reddit exodus: let's make this one different!...

Welcome to /m/men! ( kbin.social )

I just stepped down as moderator from all five of the subreddits I used to moderate over on Reddit. I just can't ethically justify continued activity on Reddit, and especially free volunteer labour for an openly greedy company that is engaged in scummy behaviour, forcing mods to open protesting communities or be demoted....

Reddit activated a word filter that whenever you say "fuck spez", your comment won't show up for anyone else. I just tested it on ModCoord. they're also deleting spez memes from the subs they nuked lol ( kbin.social )

r/ModCoord: The admins in charge of demodded subreddits are mass-removing images of Huffman previously shared on them...

📢Entire mod team on r/mildlyinteresting (and more subs) removed and locked out of their accounts after changing their rules upon community's request. (They're also switching subs BACK to SFW) ( kbin.social )

EDIT: GO DM MODS OF YOUR FAVORITE SUBREDDITS AND POLITELY ASK ABOUT MIGRATION!: something as simple as "Hey, I love this community but I no longer use reddit, will you guys be making a community on Kbin or other alternatives? Let me know please, thanks." will work!! We need more voices encouraging migration!...

All mods of /r/self and /r/shittylifeprotips were removed and suspended for 7 days without any warning first. ( kbin.social )

We toggled to 18+ and sort of let nature take its course by only enforcing TOS. I say "we" but in reality I was the only active mod on either sub, so I do feel bad for getting awkwardtheturtle banned by association (lol). After the fact got the "It’s not ok to show people NSFW content when they don’t want to see it....

How To Integrate PeerTube Instances ( kbin.social )

I am trying to subscribe to a channel on a PeerTube instance from kbin. Considering they are both ActivityPub, it would make sense that kbin could integrate with a PeerTube instance. But when I try to "Subscribe With A Remote Account" using my @ given in the profile section, I receive the error "Cannot fetch information of this...

Is there any service that can be selfhosted that is similar to the old rabb.it site? ( kbin.social )

For those that don't know, rabb.it was a site where you basically had a chatroom and a virtual pc that was shared to everyone in the room. It was used to get together and watch youtube/plex/netflix/whatever together, and everyone was able to control the browser on the virtual PC. I don't even think you needed to have an account...

The best way to protest against reddit is simply to not interact with Reddit ( kbin.social )

I see a lot of posts about how they uploaded anti-spez stuff onto reddit, or participated in the nsfw spams/john oliver spams. While I get wanting to let it all out, this ultimately keeps up engagement on reddit rather than bringing it down....
