Not logged in. Seems to be only read mode.

Goodnight, sweet prince.

peeledbanana , in Christian Selig’s Goodbye to Apollo

Thank your for all your hard work over the years.

Apollo and other 3rd party apps made reddit not only usable but enjoyable. Spez and his enablers see one goal and that’s as much money as possible until the ship sinks. While I have no objections to people and companies making money. It’s HOW they go about it that really upsets me.

Thank you again, and I wish your well on your future endeavours.

berno , in Reddit suddenly caresTM for the blind

Noticed this too. Too little too late Reddit, you have made your bed

moon_matter , in Ordinary redditors are feeling the pain as well.
@moon_matter@kbin.social avatar

People are only using the 3rd party app line because it's the most relatable argument. It's much more than that. A ton of moderation tools and useful bots are going dark tomorrow thanks to the API policy change. Even if we all go back to Reddit, there's no bringing back those tools. Reddit communities are going to slowly go to shit as spammers all realize that moderators aren't as effective as they used to be. This was going to happen regardless of how the protests turned out. There's no scenario where things get better for Reddit.

Niello ,

Imo, more emphasis should have been made on how spez treated Christian, the Apolla dev. It's honestly disgusting. And not even any kind of apology or direct reply. Spez just went on to smear Christian's name more with disinformation he fed to the press via interviews.

bryce0110 ,

It definitely should have.

I've seen many threads recently filled with people taking spez's side versus Christian. No idea how anyone could do that in good faith.

Edit: I am releasing Boost for Lemmy, you can pre-register to get notified when it is available. In the meantime you can create an account and join lemmy.world/c/boostforlemmy

Nicenightforawalk ,

This is where I get confused with the federation part. If I’m signed up on kbin and masterdon do I need to sign up on lemmy as well or is it pointless having 3 signups if you are able to see all posts?

abff08f4813c ,

More the second one. I joined that lemmy sub using my kbin

Mr_Jabroni ,
@Mr_Jabroni@kbin.social avatar

It is useful to have just 2 logins, one for kbin (or lemmy) and one for Mastodon (or Calckey).

You can see content from Mastodon on kbin but it's not the same experience since there's no timeline, hashtag follow, etc. Similarly you can see threads from kbin in Mastodon but the UI is not very nice.

For kbin and lemmy, different logins are not needed since they share the way they show information. So you can seamlessly browse lemmy content in kbin without worrying where it was originally posted.

Karl , in It's over - Sync for Reddit is offline
@Karl@kbin.social avatar

This one really hurts. On the bright side Sync for Lemmy will be a thing.

Rabbithole , in Yet another app shutting down. Boost closing on the 1st

He confirmed the Lemmy app.

It's in the playstore where you can pre-register for it. Looks great.

JungleGeorge ,
@JungleGeorge@kbin.social avatar

Really hope there'll also eventually be /kbin support

aeternum ,

The problem is that there's no API yet. Once the API happens, I'm sure there'll be lots of apps to choose from

Fatbuddha , in RIP RIF

The Creator of RIF says they are working on tildes.net, I don't believe that's part of the fediverse sadly. I really know very little about tildes anyone know why they would choose that over trying to build for Lemmy or kbin?

elscallr ,
@elscallr@kbin.social avatar

That's interesting, though. I haven't used Tildes but I got real used to rif's interface and this is taking some getting used to.

Bendersmember ,
@Bendersmember@kbin.social avatar

I'm on tildes, it's really refreshing and easy to use.
Main difference is that it seems to cater more of a serious adult conversations, which after years of being able to predict most comments before looking in Reddit, is very refreshing.
Lots less memes, communities are pre set and can't be created, seems to be to make sure to populate them before creating sub categories that people may see as in active and avoid.
Overall it feels like fedworld is best overall experience, squabbles is memes and lighthearted and tildes is more deep and thought out style of interaction.

I believe yunohost still has a Lemmy installer.

I really wasn't ready as sick as I did until I started watching Redact edit every single comment one-by-one, watching so many years of comments going by. It's rare to watch an era play back in front of you before it disappears like that. But at the same time I feel a lot more free to explore new platforms (like this one, this is my first comment on kbin :D). I'm ultimately glad that, while for abhorrent reasons, I was given the oppertunity to disconnect from Reddit and find more niche communities and websites again. I felt like it was 2004 all over again.

Nollij , in Porn Historically Decides Tech Adoption... Fediverse?

It’s true that porn is a big part of the internet at large. You can point to countless examples where a product (even social media) lived and died by porn.

But there are also countless examples where porn was never a factor. Most of the major social platforms today have always had an anti-porn approach. It’s debatable whether that helped or hindered their growth, but it’s always been a thing.

Now, I can’t think of any where porn was a big part of their platform that got removed, and they came out ok. Maybe that’s (part of) why Reddit has been downplaying porn for a while.

Right now, there is plenty of porn in the fediverse. But there will be the same challenges as any user-submitted porn site. There’s currently a big discussion about categories that are unwanted, generally offensive, and illegal in certain jurisdictions. The fediverse makes all of that more complicated. There’s also a big concern about the content being uploaded directly, increasing the load on every instance that federates.

There will definitely be porn here, but I don’t think it’s going to work the same as it did on Reddit.

Deralax , in Ordinary redditors are feeling the pain as well.

I've already felt the sting of the protests when googling solutions to various issues. I used to be able to include "reddit" in the search and would almost always find relevant information quickly, but now as OP mentioned many posts and whole communities have gone dark.

It's all been really eye opening about the potential negative consequences of having so many communities and information in the control of so few.

SurrealVision ,

Yeah it's so dangerous for Reddit to be in the control of a single CEO

AnonymousLlama , in Fuck Reddit u̶p̶v̶o̶t̶e̶ boost party!
@AnonymousLlama@kbin.social avatar

A fair number of people seem to be spilling out into Lemmy, kbin, squabbles and other places. Be keen to see how the growth accelerates over the next few weeks as people weigh up their options.

zcd OP ,

I think once some nice 3rd party apps get rolling we’ll see a lot more adoption as well

LaKris ,

Yeah, memmy has helped me transition from apollo.

Dark_Blade ,
@Dark_Blade@lemmy.world avatar

Memmy’s done a phenomenal job at making the Threadiverse more accessible. I bet when it comes out, tons of people will suddenly find it far easier to use Lemmy.

AnonymousLlama , in Welp, I just deleted my 12 year old, 240k+ karma Reddit account
@AnonymousLlama@kbin.social avatar

It's a shame to have to migrate away from a place when it was fundamentally damaged by terrible top-down decisions. 2023 really is the year of getting less for more.

Amanduh ,

Do you know how to hide posts on here once you've voted on them? That would be a nice feature

iso ,

Hop over to Lemmy, you can still access kbin communities from over here. Kbin is pretty immature software-wise

Amanduh ,

If i just google "how do i lemmy" will that work?
