Ford rethinks EV strategy, is working on a smaller, cheaper EV platform

Ford now says mass-adoption needs EVs that cost the same as combustion cars.

@arstechnica sounds like BYD is doing something right by forcing American automakers to compete. Looking forward to an affordable EV that I can't afford.

@arstechnica Ford deserves to go out of business for pushing all of these enormous F150s into our communities.

@arstechnica
Maybe if they weren't so fucking busy making red neck pickups bigger than semitrucks, they can build a EV that's affordable for the masses and doesn't focus on speed and show.
WTF happen to Ford, Chevy and GM?

No shit!

Nothing gets past them. Absolutely nothing.

@arstechnica to the shock of no one, mass adoption of EVs requires affordable EVs.

A lot has to change to facilitate this.

The transition from horses to cars involved building a lot of infrastructure and passing many laws (e.g. zoning laws make auto ownership a requirement to participate in society).

We can look at more advanced countries that have wider EV adoption and see what needs to happen if we want to join the 21st century.

@arstechnica CHEVY. FUCKING. SPARK.

That and the Volt were 100% on my shopping list for when my venerable Cmax eventually dies (10 years from now by all appearances, it's a happy lil thing). However, I am very nervous at the thought of buying a car with no future production. Cmax parts are getting spendy.

I'd REALLY love an electric like the smart fortwo, but I need 4 seats. My city is an absolute menace to bikes so that won't work, gimme a lil runabout you assholes

@arstechnica No shit, Ford, really? I have yet to figure out what goes through the minds of these execs sometimes.
