@arstechnica Counterpoint:
I pay HP $4.31/ month for ink & the printer just works. That's $51.72 per year. When I was buying cartridges they would die & weirdly fade out. Any time I bought ink that way it was ~$20 - $40+ every time & I did that a few times a year. On the financial side I think HP Instant Ink subscription is way better! And I could go to a cheaper plan if I printed less.

On the monitoring side - I think it's way less creepy than a Ring doorbell, or Alexa or Google anything!

@arstechnica never own an HP again!

@arstechnica What the hell? This is ridiculous. Is anyone actually brain dead enough to fall for this nonsense?

@arstechnica It's time for HP to stop being a company. It's time for everyone to stop buying ANY HP products.

@arstechnica "Trust us. We're HP!. We won't know what you print!"

@arstechnica $432 a year? HP have lost the damned plot. $432 buys a lifetime worth of Brother color laser.

@arstechnica HP is now a literal rent-seeker.

@arstechnica fixed it for you - "Never buy an HP printer again."

KatieLoves2Read ,

@arstechnica I haven't owned a printer since 2008, and it seems unlikely that I ever will again with the current direction of the industry.
