Those 2 million cars didn't leave their own driveways to get that update. The 1980s is far, far in the past.

Also, I am curious about other cars who rear end something, what is the rate compared to FSD activated Teslas? I suspect that the FSD is still safer on limited access roads than humans.

It blows my mind that regulators didn't prevent this tech from being used on public roads from the start. You can't wait-and-see when it involves machinery that can easily kill people who haven't opted into the beta program.

@arstechnica More recently, they automatically opted people into FSD (supervised) unexpectedly. I almost got into a crash seconds after enabling what I thought was cruise control (as it was normally). My wife saw 2 Teslas created into each other later that day. Can't help but wonder if they were surprised as well or if they willingly gave it a try, not having watched all the news about how bad FSD is.
