There’s never been a better time to get into Fallout 76

Fallout 76 is good now. Actually, it’s always been good.

@arstechnica No, your standards have just been lowered so much by all the other live service garbage which has been foisted on you over the years that it just seems good by comparison.

@arstechnica Blink twice if Fallout 76 is making you say this

@arstechnica I gave it another try. I got to the end of a long quest chain that you’re given in the first couple hours of the game and found a locked door that wouldn’t open even after I got the password to open it. Searching brought up several 5 year old threads complaining about the same bug and saying that it sometimes works if you server hop until you find one that’s not bugged. I guess that’s what it means by “it’s always been good”.

@arstechnica Senior Editor swings with another miss, NOPE. How much did Bethesda pay ya to push this tripe? this live service will die abruptly taking your credits with it.

@arstechnica I quit playing the moment that I realized entire quest lines and certain premium items were, as a practical matter, not completable or not obtainable while playing solo.

@arstechnica if you’ve ever played a Bethesda game you knew what to expect at launch. 76 was a fun buggy wasteland, just like Skyrim and fallout 3/4 before it. But it was still fun. Bethesda has some shitty qualities just like every other AAA company out there. I’d argue that 76 is a little less fun than it was during launch, but still a fallout 4 level entry quality-wise. I don’t care for the seasons board game stuff but there are some fun events. Not as friends friendly as I’d like, even now.

@arstechnica Anyone who says Fallout 76 has always been good did not play the game during those first 3 years. I played it on PlayStation 4 around launch, and I remember that framerate being low at all times

@arstechnica Wow. Bethesda not only censoring criticism of their games on their social media channels, they're also taking out ads on tech sites. Kind of icky.

Isn't there some kind of journalistic ethic about declaring when something is a paid promotion?

Bethesda and their parent company Zenimax have yet to apologize for what they did to Leona Faron. For those that don't know, a transphobic manager outed Leona without her permission and then suddenly began lodging complaints about her work. When moved under another manager, the complaints stopped. Sensing a lawsuit, Zenimax leveraged her Healthcare to get her to leave the company, threatening to fire her right before she was to take leave for GCS if she didnt leave willingly.
