Robot dogs armed with AI-targeting rifles undergo US Marines Special Ops evaluation

Quadrupeds being reviewed have automatic targeting systems but require human oversight to fire.

@arstechnica

Has the military made a breakthrough in battery technology?

Because otherwise I can't imagine that those critters can run around for more than 20 to 30 minutes without a recharge.

So the opposing tactic would be to lure the dogs outside of their limited range, keep them busy until they drop, and then capture and reprogram them.

@arstechnica We're currently in an AI race to determine whether rich people will be able to use such robots to rule over the people they still need to work for them or to be able to go ahead and just eliminate those they no longer need at all.

Why would billionaires put up with being constrained by a functioning democracy when they no longer need all those voters to work for them?

One soldier per 500 dogs seems like good oversight. 🤡

We JUST heard what happens when militaries do this, with the Israeli whistleblowers who said they were just clicking buttons and authorizing the bombings. No meaningful oversight was happening.

We must never allow local law enforcement the ability to have these AI weapons. NEVER.

@arstechnica Oh good, another easy way for a bored 18 year old to kill people with the blessings of the US government.

We're setting ourselves up to "meh" our way into war crimes.
