Comcast, hemorrhaging subscribers, to bundle Apple TV+, Netflix, Peacock & cable

Comcast wants to tie its cable/Internet to your streaming subscriptions.

@arstechnica OTOH, have you ever accepted a Comcast offer for free Peacock w/ ads and then tried either to upgrade it or to cancel it to regain control of the Peacock account tied to the email address used for the free offer? Fun times. Hint: You have to downgrade or cancel your Internet service. Never let any streaming account be “connected” to your Comcast account.

@arstechnica The reason people hated cable bundles wasn’t the bundle itself. It’s that either the items weren’t readily available separately or that changing the bundle required a phone call to VRU and CSR hell with great friction to change.

I think we’ll find easily cancelled or modified bundles of products trivially available separately have very little stickiness, but greater willingness to try for savings.

@arstechnica Since the term “cord cutters” was coined specifically for people fleeing big cable bundles, I suspect this is a harder sale than they think it is…

@arstechnica and all we accomplished was one more layer to take it's cut and arrive back at the start.
