Justice Samuel Alito flew not one, but two pro-insurrection flags at his homes.

Alito not being forced to recuse from Trump's immunity case and upcoming Jan 6 cases tells you everything you need to know about the SCOTUS code of "ethics" established last year.

Hint: It's a sham.

@rbreich - That's what happens when people allow things like 'ethics' to be defined by those who lack them.

Our two party government is a sham. Intentionally so. And the economy is a house of cards built on a fraud. What are you going to do about it though?

@rbreich I agree he needs to resign.

@rbreich He needs to resign, not recuse. He’s anti American and anti constitution.

@rbreich Yes, but by that measure, the state flag of SC, the US flag, and many other flags that were flown that day at the Capital by protesters could also be labeled flags of insurrection.

Just an observation:

Ethics may just be too “fuzzy” for the SCOTUS to grasp. It sure seems that way.

They might grasp this:

A strict individual term limit applied upon confirmation with a senate simple majority no confidence and removal vote clause built in could work to keep them better bounded. All current justices to be reconfirmed upon initial adoption. It may take a constitutional amendment to make it happen I would think.

Just a thought… Maybe someone else will have a much better and constructive idea which would be welcome.

Where does Justice Samuel Alito fly his Confederate flag?

You didn't learn your Ethics Lesson from Marcus Aurelius, now did you?
"To expect Republican Cultists not to follow their Cult Leader is Madness;" paraphrasing Marcus Aurelius.
Appointed, these Justices assume themselves as "Above the Law," where they see the word as the Law of the Nation.
The initial failure was Zero Accountability or Oversight attached to such Appointments!
Americans built the trough, now they must drink from it!

The current conservative majority is the most corrupt and lawless cabal in SCOTUS history. They have de-legitimized the entire US Supreme Court with their temporizing and outcome-driven decisions in furtherance of their fascist ideology and pursuit of filthy lucre. The civilized world holds them in contempt.

markvonwahlde ,

@rbreich This appearance of fairness abomination, along with the several luxurious vacation scandals, convinces me that we have a grievous problem. But "forcing" disqualification doesn't solve the problem. If the judge can't self-disqualify, then the judge should be removed.

@rbreich

Then why should we continue accepting respectful deference by our other cracked branches of government towards this clearly criminal court that’s been stolen and controlled by fascist death-cult fanatics?

Alito is a dangerous terrorist.
Thomas is a terrorist.
Beer, Coney Island and Neil are terrorists.
Roberts is bin Laden.

Biden needs to start calling out some motherfuckers as motherfuckers. Or it’s a sham.

@rbreich

I agree that Justices Alito and Thomas are clearly biased and corrupt. No one should expect ethical votes from them.

But now we have another problem: if we've decided that the USA's highest court is unworthy of our trust, are we still in any position to say that Donald Trump's prosecutions are any more legitimate?

I know one does not govern the other. But Trump's defenders want everyone to lose faith in the judiciary.

Given what we're saying about SCOTUS, why shouldn't they?

AND Justice Clarence Thomas (wife's involvement). That changes the balance, a lot!
