Office Hours: If Trump is found guilty, should Biden emphasize the guilty verdict or focus on abortion and democracy instead? https://robertreich.substack.com/p/office-hours-if-trump-is-found-guilty?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=mastodon

@rbreich Biden should focus on Trump’s sleazy character (which is such a sad thing to say- as in there are people out there, still not sure about him? 🙄), but JUST as important, the threat to our Democracy the GOzP represents, their restriction of personal liberties, civil, voter, LGBT rights AND Gaza.
We have a moral obligation to reign Israel in, not from protecting themselves, but from committing wholesale, indiscriminate slaughter of Palestinians. 🔥😬

That's a tough question, but I'd say that since everybody will already know about Trump's (pending) conviction, he should focus on other things.

@rbreich People want to know how he will help working class Americans who are oppressed by late stage capitalism. How do we move to doughnut economics?

@rbreich do not feed the trolls, as they say, just focus on preserving democracy and restoring national abortion rights

@rbreich I don’t know why the Dems haven’t taken the gloves off and used the every nuclear option against the orange stool sample.

@rbreich

he can focus on 3 things at once right? he has focus teams that can prepare special campaigns?

@rbreich Stay focused on what people want, , and . 's sycophants won't believe or accept any guilty verdict, They've made up their minds and don't want to be confused with facts.

President Biden should do what he has done all along, emphasize that he and the the justice system are independent of each other.

Perhaps in a closing statement of a closing debate add a zinger emphasizing that Trump is a felon.

@rbreich

should talk about economics (a kitchen-table topic where he has done so well), abortion, and democracy... but keep throwing in references to his crimes. Put far more words to the important topics, but don't let his crimes go unmentioned.

Trump's voters will vote for him if he is in a prison cell for mass murder, caught on video.

The GOP loyals will vote for him whether they like him or not.

will not air complete sentences that criticize their orange Messiah, but will mention jabs and name-calling.

As usual, the will come down to the independent and swing voters. Focus on what they care about, then branch out from there. Repeated jabs at the criminal are all that's needed.

The news media has been covering the ad nauseum. Anyone with half a brain who cares knows that Trump is a criminal. needs to NOT be just another part of that white noise.

@rbreich Focussing on the convictions will only strengthen Trump’s assertion that the lawsuits are all politically motivated. Let others focus on them. Democrats should focus on what they will do right, not on what Trump did (and would do) wrong.

@rbreich Abortion, democracy and maybe antitrust? I mean tech giants, LiveNation and healthcare local monopolists are deeply despised by both Democrats and Trump Republicans. Biden's administration has a reputation of not doing anything, but when it comes to antitrust, they have done more in 4 years than previous administrations have done in 30 years.

Ignoring Trump is always the best option. Let him stew in his own mess. Don't provide him any opportunities for more publicity.

jon ,

@rbreich Biden should resign. He's a war criminal who is currently perpetrating a genocide. The only debate that should be had is whether he deserves a life sentence or the death penalty. Talking about him remaining or running for office is absurd.

mok0 ,

@rbreich Abortion and democracy. Let the Trumpers worry about their criminal candidate.

@rbreich gloating over him would make him and his base worse. B should get on with democracy ( and stop supporting genocide )

Go scorched earth. Hit Trump with everything and tell people he is so toxic that no GOP can be allowed to be in government.
