@arstechnica The biggest problem is the lack of 3rd party parts and tools to service them.
It's not like an old Toyota or Chevy where you can find what ever you need at the local parts store and a tool to diagnose it that connects to your phone or a laptop for $20 to $100.
@arstechnica main problem is that it's a closed walled garden where every fix is expensive. It might be something that could be fixed with $300 but then instead if they say you need a full replacement you are forced to pay $12k

@arstechnica The main reason to buy a used tesla is to strip the good parts (the motors, motor controller, and battery pack) off in order to modify a better car.
