@arstechnica just "aquire" your music and host it on a navidrome or jellyfin server. You probaly don't even need to bother with making your server accessible from outside your local network if you cache your music on your phone, and even if you need access it's very easy with a simple wireguard script or tailscale.
AirVPN only costs 99€ for 3 years.
If you aren't experienced with computers I would suggest jellyfin with tailscale on windows; they are very beginner-friendly tools.

@arstechnica here in my country Spotify is less than $2 a month. Pros of living in a third world country I guess. Still don't have it though as it's just not worth it
@arstechnica I got out when I learned that they stopped paying small artists. Slowly rebuilding the algorithm on Apple so that it knows me. It’s a struggle.
