Why would they purposely want to lose talent, though? Sounds more like they had back-door deals with real estate moguls who would lose billions when companies stopped renting office space.

@arstechnica Managers believe in butt-in-the-seat productivity. If you are at your desk or duty location, they think they know you're being productive. Nose to the grindstone. OTOH, people working from home are working more and longer than they would under RTO to prove that they are productive. Two different evaluations, both imagined.
