Couldn't see shit from my place. Was I looking in the wrong direction? At the wrong time? Or is there just too much light pollution on my street?

AmbiguousProps ,

What time and direction?

SpaceNoodle ,

Randomly from 10 to 2, north, west, and south.

AmbiguousProps ,

Hmm, odd. Must've been light pollution, as I was able to pretty clearly see them north, west, east, and right above.

SpaceNoodle ,

Yeah, there's a lot of light pollution in and around this neighborhood.

Probably too much light pollution. Unless you're far away from any light it's difficult to see with the naked eye. Try taking a picture with a long exposure (just a couple seconds should do it). You'll want to be looking North and they can change in intensity through the night but I was able to get some good photos around 11:30.

I'm not sure, there was a ton of light pollution where I was at. It was all over the sky in every direction and moved around.

SpaceNoodle ,

When?

poopsmith OP ,
@poopsmith@lemmy.world avatar

After it started getting dark. It was very vivid around 10:30ish to 11:30 or so. I went to sleep after that though, so it might've gotten brighter. I was checking periodically earlier but wasn't seeing anything til it suddenly became visible.

It came and went where I was. It was difficult to see with street lights so we went to a nearby football pitch which was dark and could see it then.

Phones definitely making it look better than the eye sees it.

Edit: look North

SeaJ , in Obligatory Aurora Borealis post

I hope it is back tomorrow night. I was tending to a screaming toddler the whole time so I missed it.

khannie ,

I believe it should be. I'm 8 timezones away but our news said yesterday:

expected to arrive as early as today and to persist through until Sunday.

SeaJ ,

Crossing my fingers. Saw someone post a pic an hour ago from Eastern Oregon. So far I have not seen anything tonight and the probability is shrinking.

AmbiguousProps , in Obligatory Aurora Borealis post

Just watched it for about an hour. Absolutely stunning.

Lmfao this is such a solid burn, which being educational!

Do something extremely petty like destroying an affordable housing program that otherwise has wide public support: Let’s say you have some uncivilized Council colleague like Tammy Morales who has spent two years carefully planning a program that cuts red tape for developers and non-profits who want to work together on building sorely needed affordable housing in Seattle – and it doesn’t even cost the city a dime! But you oppose it. And then for some reason that bitch tells the public you oppose it. Burn that shit and her to the ground. Show Tammy and the rest of your constituents who’s boss. Then maybe next time they’ll be more civil by not telling the public the truth about you.

I was surprised by a zebra in a field here in California when I was doing work that had me driving to a lot of farms all over the state. I didn't know you could just have a zebra like you could a horse.

This certainly makes several models very affordable.

I got two words into it and they started screaming at me again. So this is a different thing than your standard protest.

A "standard protest" of course being one that's easy to ignore.

If people are breaking laws, do what you gotta do, arrest them. But to be a "fascist" or "totalitarian", you have to hold a position of power, you can't just be inconveniently loud.

paysrenttobirds , in Senior Democrat calls for arrests of ‘leftwing fascists’ urging Gaza ceasefire | The Guardian

Is he drunk? Is this really the state of our representation? Wtf is a totalitarian protestor? Are people holding signs on a lawn intimidating to him? How dare they disagree with someone who won an election a couple years ago against some other blowhard? Are we really only supposed to interact with our government once a year quietly in a voting both? These people need their heads screwed back on. What do they think their job is about?

rjthyen , in DOOM LOOP: Highway Protest

I thought it was going to be that the protest was for gun rights or something and he'd do a 180 on the validity of the protest

He looks like he’s just shitting his pants while maintaining eye contact. Shameless. Knows he’s a terrible person. Out of control liar. Like an actor who knows he’s a villain.
