This is the only ST spin-off I don’t really like. I couldn’t put my finger to it, until someone pointed out that ST was and always had been competence porn. This isn’t and that’s apparently what I’m missing.

For me it was just the emotional tone. I only watched the first 5 episodes, but one of the things that makes Star Trek enjoyable for me is its optimism about the future. Discovery was really bleak (at least to start) and I couldn’t keep watching it. I’ve heard it gets better, so maybe I should give it another shot.

I definitely gets better, I had to force myself to get through most the first season and pretty much ignored all the Klingon subtitled conversations. The mood really picks up and is enjoyable once Pike gets involved.

It only gets worse. Don’t do this to yourself.

It doesn’t get better

Every thread about Discovery absolutely HAS to be full of people saying they don’t like it. Like, great, okay, we heard you for the first five years since it came on the air. We get it. Why are you still so obsessed with it that you have to make sure everyone knows your opinion that it sucks whenever it comes up?

I mean I could name many shows or franchises that I don’t enjoy, but I don’t make a point to jump into the very thread about them and whine about it. Move on! It’s okay to not like things! You don’t have to keep watching it! You have my permission to do something else!

Aren't you making a point of whining about this? Shouldn't you move on? It's okay to do other things! You have our permission!
