Same with mine. When he was new to us, he ran away twice so I put him on a leash strictly and put a GPS tracker on him. Thought he just wasn't one of those off the leash dogs. A year later a friend of mine told me "just cut him loose". I told him he runs, he looked at the dog and said "nah. He isn't going to. Try it."
Was hectars and hectars of his private forest, so I thought "what the hell, we'll find him with the tracker when he's hungry" and massive surprise: He really never ran off. Not that day and never since. 20m ahead, 20m back, never have to worry, as soon as people can be heard or he loses sight of me he's by my side immediately.

Eh, not all of them run. I’ve got a very territorial whatever mix. About a year ago, I got a call from my neighbor telling me my front door had been open all night and if everything was alright. I was 100% awake immediately because DOG! Found him lying on the door mat, apparently he had decided that this unusual situation demanded his attention and nobody would be entering on his watch.
Weather is shit outside, rain beating down against the shutters. Got wet to the skin during the evening walk. Luckily, humans have mastered the art of stuffing fire into a neat windowed box and pushed a couch in front of it, so yeah, all’s right with the dogworld for now.

If anybody plans to manufacture their own cooler or make another cooler fit - here’s the measurements you need. Image is calibrated in X and Y.
