They also only carry good brands, unlike the shit you’ll find at Target and Walmart. If Costco carries it, it’s almost certainly high quality.

That’s usually why they’re substitutes, they have a degree, but no credentials.

I bought a router from Costco once and a week later they mailed me a check for $20, explaining that they lowered the price on the item after I bought it. Like, who does that? They have an amazing return policy too. Costco is awesome. If you drive a lot, then just the gas savings alone will cover the cost of membership. If you do most of your shopping there then the executive membership rebate at the end of the year will cover the entire cost of membership plus some extra money.

Edit: oh, and they sell hearing aids and hearing aid batteries at cost, which can save people who are hard of hearing thousands of dollars. Literally thousands of dollars on a one time purchase. For example, they have the top of the line Rexton hearing aids for $1499. Those cost $6,500 at any normal audiologist office.

It’s probably written by AI.

Have they stopped for a moment to think if this is what TAS fans want?

No.

Anticorp , to Work Reform in there is Indeed a problem

Oh, in that case I agree with you. Although, if I were putting in all that legwork, I’d like to think I’d be checking my replies on a daily basis. But yeah, it’s pretty standard to email or call someone if you want an interview with them. LOL. Just arbitrarily throwing out a date and time means they don’t respect you or your schedule at all, and you probably don’t want to work for them.

Anticorp , to Work Reform in there is Indeed a problem

I get the pain, but if you’re offered an interview and you forget to check what time the interview is scheduled for and you miss it, then that’s on you. Showing up to the interview on time is like step 0, the most basic requirement for obtaining a job. If you’re struggling with that step then at least part of the problem lies with you.

Anticorp , (edited ) to Science Fiction in [Review] Foundation Season 2 (2023)

The show writers add a lot of additional content that isn’t in the books, especially pertaining to characters. Almost none of the character stories are from Asimov, because the books are focused on events over thousands of years, not on characters. The content the show writers add isn’t very compelling or interesting.

The books themselves aren’t all that great. They’re okay. They were probably pretty revolutionary in their time, but they’re just okay now. I think they’re worth reading as important pieces of sci-fi history, but don’t expect anything mind blowing.

Basically I’m saying it doesn’t matter if you read the books or watch the show. Both are okay, but the show is a lot more boring than the books. Some people probably love the content, I could take it or leave it. For the books I took it to the end, for the show I left it after a couple of episodes.

That’s a good point.

Yes, they might. The more important they are, the higher the likelihood that they can get high pay and remote work elsewhere, and have plenty of savings on hand to weather the transition.

Anticorp , to Work Reform in Grindr loses nearly half its staff to strict return-to-work rule

Right. This produces the opposite result of what a layoff usually obtains, retaining talented key personnel while cutting the chaff. That’s why I’m not sure layoffs were the actual goal.

Anticorp , to Work Reform in Grindr loses nearly half its staff to strict return-to-work rule

I don’t think that’s entirely the case though. With layoffs you remove the positions that the company no longer needs, or can’t sustain. With this strategy they’re just randomly losing half the staff. You wouldn’t lay off your chief software architect, or the only guy who knows how your database works, or the account manager who will take all of your vendors with them when they leave. This will cause enormous hardship for the company if the wrong people left.

I suppose they could have done a bunch of mandatory surveys first, asking employees how they felt about a return to the office and carefully monitoring the responses from key personnel, even preemptively mandating documentation or hand-off of responsibilities. That’s incredibly nefarious though if that’s what they did. That might even border on illegal.

You hospital workers have insane schedules! All of you! I’ve heard of resident doctors working 36 hour shifts. How do they even function?

I have a friend who is a nurse and he takes all the worst shifts because they pay the best. He doesn’t have a family, so it only impacts him, and he’s living a FIRE lifestyle (which he’s hella good at). But he lost a ton of weight and was as white as a vampire last time I saw him because he never sees the sun. That’s taking it a bit too far IMO. But I’m sure he’ll be the one laughing when he retires with a paid off house and no debt in a few years.

I suppose it all comes down to perspective. I take pride in the work I do, I always have. I get satisfaction for a job well done. I enjoy making people happy with the results I produce, or looking at something I’ve created and knowing that I put my best effort into it. I’ve had this attitude for as long as I can remember, but it is always a conscious choice. There are intangible benefits to hard work that are gratifying, and of course if you keep at it for long enough, tangible benefits usually follow.

If you’re only concerned that you’re making your boss more money than you’re making for yourself then you’re going to have a miserable life. Someone will always be above us, regardless of how high we climb.
