HidingCat , to Photography in Is Sony a6400 + sigma 18-50 f2.8 good for casual photography (as a beginner)
  1. You should look at sample images online, prefably with semi-consistent subjects. Some people don't like Sony's JPEGs, for example.
  2. This is something you have to find out for yourself; eg I cannot stand using Canon cameras in general, Sonys have their annoyances. Love Nikon, Fujifilm and Panasonics. If there's a store or a rental service I suggest you use those to spend some time with the camera.
  3. Despite what some might say, all cameras can do decent in low-light. The ones with bigger sensors just do better than decent. You're off to a good start with your choice of lens too, picking a versatile bright zoom.
  4. Cameras can last a long-time if they're not abused (too much). There are still plastic fantastics from the film era that are still working (which have more moving parts and thus more places that can fail).
HidingCat , to Men's Liberation in Study suggest men refuse to ditch meat because it threatens their masculinity

Yea, one thing I feel is that vegans really are letting perfect be the enemy of good. While I do empathise and am eating less meat myself, I feel like screeching on people being omnis is missing the forest for the trees; if most people did like what you mentioned, eating meat once a week, that's 6/7th less animals slaughtered. Along with the reductions in emissions and whatever environmental impact too, of rearing so many animals for their meat.

Also, posting this generated a 50x error message, even though it was successfully posted. xD

HidingCat , to Photography in Looking For Photo Printer Recommendations

Because of the power consumed, don't expect any decent photo printer to last long on battery. They'll be AC-powered most of the time.

HidingCat , to /kbin in The great (planned) kbin outage (upgrade) of 2023 - how did you spend it?

I was sleeping. Because you know, timezones and it was pretty much in the night for me.

HidingCat , to RedditMigration in Ordinary redditors are feeling the pain as well.

I think Kbin isn't, because of bandwidth/CPU concerns.

HidingCat , to RedditMigration in I don't understand why people still want to use reddit instead of moving to Lemmy or Kbin

We're early adopters. Early adopters have a higher tolerance for (and ability to deal with) things like bugs, confusing UI, uncertainty, and probably continual change for the short term.

Not to mention, a lack of content. While it's populating nicely it's still not like Reddit, especially for niche subjects. You definitely have to endure a lot of shouting in the wind situations while this builds up.

HidingCat , to Star Trek in Did this site live and die in 4 days?

The irony of being a Trekkie but fearing strange new worlds.
