MrZee ,

First, fair warning: I have little experience with repairing dishwashers and zero experience with that brand. I’m just a dude that likes diagnosing and fixing things.

Assuming that the internet steered you right and the error code is related to that sensor, how confident are you that the sensor is good and that it doesn’t have an intermittent failure? If I were in your shoes and the part is cheap, I’d replace it.

The hearing is on Thursday.

Ahead of the hearings, Schoen told Newsweek: “No matter where anyone stands on Mr. Bannon, everyone should hope the conviction gets reversed on appeal. It is a very dangerous proposition to hold someone criminally culpable and send them to prison without a finding that he or she ever acted in any way that he or she believed was against the law or wrong. That is what happened here.”

This guy is taking crazy pills like his client right? My (very non expert) understanding is that “I didn’t know it was against the law” is in no way a valid legal defense. Are there circumstances where that is not true?

MrZee ,

The “what happened?” part of the title implies that there has been a shift in how comfortable men are with hugging. But the study doesn’t show that there has been. Per the article:

We may here be seeing an age effect, rather than a generational effect: younger adults are generally much more likely to cry and therefore worry more about whether they should or should not.

This is my suspicion. I’ve become more comfortable expressing emotions and being myself as I get older. Is that the trend and the explanation for younger men not being as comfortable demonstrating their emotions? The study doesn’t tell us.

MrZee ,

It may help if you clarify what you consider natural and synthetic wood glues. Do you mean you want to be able to collect the ingredients in the woods for some reason? Is there a particular type of chemical or other component in wood glue you are trying to avoid?

Also, what are you glueing to what? Right now, I just know that you want a desktop and you don’t want to make legs. Does that mean you are setting this desktop on the frame from your old desk? Are you gluing boards together on edge? Are you don’t joinery? I’m pretty sure that the type of gluing is going to matter, especially if you’re trying to find a glue that has undergone minimal processing.

MrZee ,

Thanks for the details! I’m sorry to say that I don’t know enough to help you very much. I have never tried looking for or working with non PVA wood glues. I suspect that even with PVA glue, you would have a hard time getting boards glued edge to edge stay at all true, so keep in mind you are likely to end up with some warp and unevenness that may show up later…. Actually I just had an idea that I think would work well - get/borrow a pocket hole jig and use that to do your edge joinery. A pocket hole jig is really a great tool that is easy to use. Check this out. Kreg is just the most common brand of pocket hole jigs. There are cheaper ones out there, although I can’t speak to which other brands are good/bad.

I just put up an awning over our back deck. Now it’s time for modifications. I’m going to adjust how the straps connect for the fabric so it’s tighter and water runs off better. then I’m going to seam seal and put on some waterproofing spray.

After that, my daughter and I are building a padded bench for a window nook in her room. The design and measurements are done. Fabric and foam have been purchased. Actual work completed: zero.

MrZee ,

I hate that hum too. I don’t suppose you found any solution?

MrZee ,

Your post inspired me to try to fix my silcocks because I too hate that whine.

I looked at the reviews for the vacuum breakers available at Home Depot and, interestingly, I’m not seeing any of the reviews mentioning whine/hum/noise. This leads me to assume that a new vacuum breaker will work fine and that the whine ends up happening when the VB ages (or if you get a defective unit).

I picked up this ridiculously overpriced unit, removed the old one using slip joint pliers, cleaned the threads, applied liquid pipe thread sealant, and screwed on the new one.

So far, no noise. Time will tell whether this is a short term solution or if it’ll last a reasonable number of years.

Note that some silcocks will have fine threads for a VB, some not. Make sure you get the right threading for your application.

If your dad already removed the VB then you don’t have this issue, but for others that might stumble on this conversation: Many VBs have a set screw in the side, which is screwed in and then broken off to prevent removal. Code often requires this. If yours is like that, you’ll need to drill out the set screw before you can take off the old one.
