Dams on the Rio Grande include Rio Grande Dam, Cochiti Dam, Elephant Butte Dam, Caballo Dam, Amistad Dam, Falcon Dam, Anzalduas Dam, and Retamal Dam. In southern New Mexico and the upper portion of the Texas border segment, the river's discharge dwindles. Diversions, mainly for agricultural irrigation, have increased the natural decrease in flow such that by the time the river reaches Presidio, little or no water is left. Below Presidio, the Rio Conchos restores the flow of water.[1] Near Presidio, the river's discharge is frequently zero. Its average discharge is 178 cubic feet per second (5 m3/s), down from 945 cubic feet per second (27 m3/s) at Elephant Butte Dam. Supplemented by other tributaries, the Rio Grande's discharge increases to its maximum annual average of 3,504 cubic feet per second (99 m3/s) near Rio Grande City. Large diversions for irrigation below Rio Grande City reduce the river's average flow to 889 cubic feet per second (25 m3/s) at Brownsville and Matamoros.[5]
I thought this was ridiculous so i read a bit about it. There's a program - 1033-Defense Logistics Agency Disposition Mission. When the military has equipment that's outdated or no longer needed, they give it to other agencies. Prosper PD said they used this for some high water rescues during the storms last week.
Think about what room it might carry over into. Laying it short way in a small room can look weird while it's not as noticeable in a larger room with furniture.
We're very weird in Texas. Despite the failures of our politicians, many residents have really strong positive feelings about our state because of the size and variety of options available - other than abortion and education funding of course. Each city/area has it's own Identity, landscape, history, and culture which creates sort of a nationalism, even though there's often animosity between them - Dallas and fort Worth hate each other because fort Worth is full of rednecks and Dallas thinks it's so fucking cosmopolitan. Most of us are disgusted by the Texas we see on the news and wish the rest of the world could see big bend, Hill country, the piney woods, Palo duro canyon, and the Texas Coast.
Well…OK kinda depends on where you are, who you associate with, and what your expectations are. In cities we’re pretty ok. I feel bad for people stuck in rural areas. Went to a party last night at a friend of a friend’s house. Hour drive. Made a contingency plan on the way - if there’s a trump flag, we’ll text and say something came up. If there’s one bumper sticker, we’ll go in and feel it out. If either of us gets uncomfortable, we leave.
Read a little about this HISD thing. Apparently 28 schools (8 high schools and the middle and elementary schools in their feeder patterns) chose to participate in this NESA (new education system aligned) plan. Teachers get extra help in their classrooms and follow standardized lesson plans. In those 28 schools, libraries will remain open and will have books/resources, but apparently will not have librarians. That seems stupid. HISD has 274 schools, so we’re taking about 10 percent of them doing this trial. i hope it’s in the bitchy, entitled, super-sensitive areas where they believe gay doesn’t exist and they say ‘Canadian’ because they can’t openly say N— anymore.
