The gist of it: with each passing decade there’s a growing shortage of construction laborers, resulting in large wait times for housing to be built. Some analysts wonder why the key demographic isn’t showing up....
Ex construction worker here. I did HVAC installation for 6 years and worked as an apprentice electrician for two. This is in California(SoCal;southern California). I didn’t get any health insurance benefits. Also I wasn’t in a union of any kind. The work is demanding; the pay was ok. There’s a lot of toxic Mother Fuckers in construction, besides your boss I mean. I also felt that there wasn’t many trade schools to go to and they were not easy to find. I went to get a certificate in an electrician course and found out that the certificate ( which I didn’t even get, because I didn’t show up on the last day (came to get it multiple times after with no luck)) that they were giving out didn’t even mean shit really. I always felt there’s not enough clear information on how to climb the ladder if you wanted to get accredited education in construction. Unless You went to LA TRADE TECH college (Los Angeles) . Or if you didn’t get a job at LADWP, your skills and knowledge didn’t offer You any good jobs. I worked private sector jobs and got my knowledge from; (basically) an online school ( penn foster ) .
Anyways 🤨 I just always felt that the state didn’t provide enough information on how to climb the ladder in your career, where to go get certification that was accredited ETC.
We really need some bad ass trade schools (out here) that aren’t for profit. And clear information on how to get licensed in different trades.
That’s my two cents
Edit; let me add this; to me it feels like the government can be shortcited. They didn’t invest in training 😕 new generation of trade workers IMHO ; and now they’re like; “oh shit!”
For profit; “everything”, makes life shit. (Pardon my French and also the terrible use of English grammar)
I say even if this BS cop city got built all the way; it should never be too late for the people(taxpayers) who live there to say ; “uh uh” / “no way 😡 Jose!” and maybe use the facilities(and land) for something else / for something more appropriate for them.
Feels like whom ever wanted to build the city got it approved quite quick and started building quickly too. So I say; don’t put a deadline on peoples decisions 😕 🤔
Police Departments in most cities around US already get a huge ass budget from local government(not to mention, state and federal governments too). Cities are always pressured to approve the budget. So **** those PDs and especially this cop city that they all wanna build.
Condolences to the victim/cyclist and his friends/loved ones.
Cyclists can be dangerous (road hazard/traffic hazard) and annoying, rude and disrespectful but they don’t deserve getting hit/ran over by a vehicle. I hope they catch this maniac soon.
We need better infrastructure where it would be safer for cyclists too. Car drivers aren’t ALWAYS the problem nor are the Cyclists. But having a combination of the two on some US roads / streets is insanity sometimes. Anyways, I am not here to argue.
Take care and be safe out there , whether You’re a driver or a rider.
I’d say growth of inequality, then internet, pandemic, global warming, trump and ETC ( not all in that order necessarily ). There’s lots of places that have gone to hell and I think 🤔 those are some of the reasons.
I say it, cause i experience it all the mofo time with cyclists who aren’t careful. Not all of them are insane; but plenty are riding as if there wasn’t any traffic and or vehicles around them. Not a care in the world.
You can try and invalidate my experience and my opinion. I just don’t see what the point is.
Well we’ve had the pandemic and it’s really taken a toll on peoples mental health and physical. But ye idk what the whole answer is. It’s many factors like you said.
