Washington Strippers Win Bill of Rights ( inthesetimes.com )

The campaignā€™s primary focus for the new law has been on improving dancersā€™ working conditions especially around expanded safety regulations. Strip clubs in Washington will now be required to hire full-time security guards, add keypad locks to dressing room doors, and conduct sexual harassment training for all employees....

The alcohol sales part of this is really big. WA was the last state in the country afaik that didnā€™t allow strip clubs to sell alcohol. This rule change could have a huge impact on the money strippers make in a positive way.

Because clubs couldnā€™t sell alcohol, they tried to make their money by taking part of the stripperā€™s tips at the end of each day. Strippers wouldnā€™t be employed by clubs, but instead would be independent contractors the clubs would use. The strippers used to have to pay a set amount of money at the end of their shift no matter what they made in tips. This could lead to them losing money on the day if it was a bad day. The bill addresses this directly by making it the lesser of 2 options between a set amount or a percentage of their tips. But the alcohol rule could also see this done away with entirely now that alcohol sales will be part of the equation. Although I doubt the tip percentage collection will go away entirely anytime soon, itā€™s a step in the right direction.

The lewd conduct part of this is also a big win for the queer community at large, as it changes the rules that was allowing cops to raid queer bars in Seattle for bar tenders having a nipple out.

Yep!!! This provision was added in response to the raids so a huge win indeed!!

A good move that is in pretty stark contrast to the current Seattle leadershipā€™s goals. Glad people on the state level are trying something here though

Your Sci-Fi suggestions

I havenā€™t had any luck in finding sci-fi books recently. Iā€™m looking for a longer story that takes its time to establish the world/universe and the characters living in it. I like the idea of exploring space or futuristic cities/landscapes and being on a journey together with the protagonist. The story doesnā€™t have to have...

Not really space-y but Iā€™m obsessed with storm light archives which I think checks some of the boxes youā€™re talking about. That and everything else cosmere too.

Yeah it def is a lot more fantasy but I also feel the world is so alien seeming it could fit the bill. I love how crustacean heavy the fauna is. But yeah not a traditional sci-fi setting by any means

Very happy Tammy was able to keep her seat given how close it was. Other results are extremely disappointing. Very bummed Ron Davis wasnā€™t able to make the comeback. Given how election night went elsewhere in the country, Seattleā€™s turnout is quite depressing

I feel like the unhoused are just so demonized here (and everywhere) and the rhetoric works. So people vote for people who say theyā€™ll literally sweep the problem under the rug so they donā€™t have to look at it anymore. Instead of working towards things that could actually help. Social housing passing was a great boon and I hope to see that progressing in the future

Iā€™m allllllmost done with Yumi and the nightmare painter. Itā€™s great! I was a little iffy on it at first. It was a little young adulty for my tastes (stereotypical teenage love interest awkwardness). But as per usual with Sanderson the end gets really good really quickly. Eager to see how it ends!

True haha that did make the whole thing a lot more tolerable
