@georgetakei When I was an ESL teacher, one of my colleagues organized the international students into a kazoo marching band. They marched all over the university playing Sousa marches. This was great fun. However, I don't think the students realized that this was not normal American activity.

@georgetakei I went to a pub in Chattanooga once that had a permanent wooden sign affixed to the wall that said, "Free Beer Tomorrow."

Neutrinos are infuriating, but we still have to study them

The particles hold the keys to new physics. If only we could understand them.

@arstechnica Ars is mad at neutrinos. It would seem to be unproductive to be angry at theoretical particles.

@georgetakei As other social services have disappeared, libraries have become homeless shelters, after school day cares, and senior citizen centers, and play many other roles. I was in the Little Tokyo library (in LA, not far from skid row) when the young librarian was kicking a homeless guy out because he had promised not to come to the library when he was high. The guy was very apologetic. If bad things happen in libraries, it's because other necessary services are underfunded or nonexistent.

Feds expand investigation into Honda’s automatic emergency braking system

3 million Honda Accords and CR-Vs are fitted with Collision Mitigation Braking System.

@arstechnica I have a 2018 Accord Hybrid. The auto braking and the "Road Departure Mitigation" features drove me nuts until I turned them off. It is kind of deep in the menus, but a lot of this stuff can be disabled. It still displays the BRAKE! warning, but it doesn't touch the brakes.
