Toys “R” Us riles critics with “first-ever” AI-generated commercial using Sora

AI-generated commercials are here, and critics are displeased—but human work is still key.

@arstechnica I enjoy how shortsighted this is. This nightmare generator of course needs tons of human help...and these companies are full of idiots if they think this is what new generations of people will want to train into. Literally, people will just drop out of and not enter creative fields to avoid doing the numb, soulless work of picking through and fixing what the machine vomits up. Companies will have fewer and fewer creatively skilled workers to do it, leaving them only with shit.

Wyoming mayoral candidate wants to govern by AI bot

VIC, the bot, will make decisions for the "meat puppet" who shows up at meetings.

@arstechnica This would be good for Wyoming (/s), considering ChatGPT is more logical and left-wing than their current politicians.

What happened to OpenAI’s long-term AI risk team?

Former team members have either resigned or been absorbed into other research groups.

@arstechnica No need to pretend they care now that they've stacked the DHS' AI Safety and Security Board with their own people to "regulate" themselves.

Google Search adds “web” filter as it pivots to AI-focused search results

Google Search now has an option to search the "web," which is not the default anymore.

@arstechnica I've been using DuckDuckGo for a year, and nothing about this news makes me want to go back, lol. DuckDuckGo also now has an OpenAI/Claude "chat" feature as a filter option, which makes me want to drop them, too.

@arstechnica lol @ her writing about gender inclusivity and her disabilities while using a tool that's stolen from countless women and disabled people to build its datasets.

"...the actual sentences and paragraphs themselves are not copyrighted and could theoretically be rearranged and republished as a different book."

Who wants to get ChatGPT to reorganize this text a 1000x and sell all the versions? (Not that anyone wants to read this BS.) For some reason, I think Shupe wouldn't like that.

Feds appoint “AI doomer” to run US AI safety institute

Former OpenAI researcher once predicted a 50 percent chance of AI doom.

@arstechnica Personally, I think I called it. I struggle to believe a guy who worked with OpenAI is now going to regulate OpenAI and co. According to Wiki, he's also on the UK's AI advisory board and involved in an AI startup. He does not appear to care that these organizations have stolen labor, en masse, for profit but rather apocalyptic hypotheticals.

@arstechnica Outside of the clearly inflated, murderous price tag far and unethically higher than experts expected it to be, how many billionaires have we got again? I'm sure if we taxed them out of existence we could afford to not watch beloved children suffer and die unnecessarily.
